Intro

If you’re anything like me, you feel sad whenever a restaurant announces that it’s closing its doors.
Even if it’s a restaurant you didn’t particularly love!
After all – a closure means the end of someone’s dream.
But of course, it’s extra painful if it’s a restaurant you knew and loved.
And such is the case here.

It’s Red Robin

If you live or ever lived in suburbia, chances are great that you’ve been to a Red Robin.
The iconic burgers.
The unlimited fries.
The shakes.
It’s a great family meal, every time.

Red Robin’s struggling

It stinks, but it’s true – Red Robin has struggled with declining sales and profits for the last several years, and it’s now in turnaround mode under CEO David Pace.
They’ve seen some early wins as they’ve raised prices and introduced a number of fun new burgers…more on that in a moment…
And, unfortunately, part of that turnaround is also closing restaurants.
The worst part?

They already closed a bunch!

Since the beginning of 2025, Red Robin has closed seven restaurants (six company-owned, and one franchised location).
And unfortunately, the pain isn’t set to end there.
They’ve identified 15 total locations to close before the end of this year – meaning we’ve got eight more Red Robins set to shut down.
Fortunately, the remaining Red Robins are getting some serious menu upgrades…

Buzzer beater bacon cheeseburger

It’s a bit of a mouthful (both as a name and as a burger), bu tthe buzzer beater bacon cheeseburger is awesome.
Very simply, you can get it as either a “double” with two beef patties or as a “triple” with three – plus bacon, tons of cheese, and their tavern sauce. (Plus fries.)
No veggies, no frills, no nonsense – just a great, thick burger!

Backyard bbq pork burger

If you love your burgers topped with pulled pork, bbq sauce, bacon, fried onions, mayo, cheddar cheese, and pickles…then this is the burger for you.
Honestly, it’s the kind of sandwich I struggle to eat bite-for-bite…when I’ve gotten it I’ve had to do some deconstruction to make sure I can get everything each time.
Only around for a limited time!

Backyard bbq pork nachos

If you’ve been to any bbq places lately, chances are good you’ve seen nachos on the menu.
Same deal here – chips, pulled pork, bbq sauce, ranch, jalapenos, and Red Robin’s “New Belgium Fat Tire Beer Cheese Bacon Fondue” – which is basically a bacon-flavored liquidy cheese sauce.
It’s indulgent. It’s filling. And, like the other two menu items I mentioned above, it’s not here for long.

Here’s hoping it works

The world needs Red Robin.
I need Red Robin.
So I’m hopeful that the painful closures they’re going through will enable Red Robin to emerge stronger and more resilient…and that it’ll show up in continued cool new menu items.
