Utah is the next western state to land Buc-ee’s, and the planned site could put the Texas travel-center chain right along one of the state’s busiest road-trip corridors. The move would add Utah to Buc-ee’s growing state-by-state expansion map, which has been stretching far beyond the chain’s Texas roots.
The planned site is in Springville, in Utah County, about 50 miles south of Salt Lake City.
With about 36,000 people, Springville’s Utah’s 31st-largest city. But true to Buc-ee’s game plan, it’s on an interstate — and near tourist areas.
Springville City Council unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding and development agreement in September 2025 tied to a Buc-ee’s Family Travel Center west of Interstate 15 near Exit 261. The proposed site is near 1400 North and 2600 West, on undeveloped land west of I-15.
The store would be huge, as expected.

Plans call for a roughly 74,000-square-foot travel center with 120 fuel pumps, multiple EV chargers, and more than 200 jobs at a starting wage of $18 to $20 per hour. Buc-ee’s would develop public infrastructure before building the store, with Springville reimbursing 50% of new road construction costs, $625,000 for a sewer lift station, and additional costs for water line upsizing and future traffic signal infrastructure.
That infrastructure piece is important because a Buc-ee’s does not quietly slide into a highway exit. It brings major traffic, major parking demand, and plenty of drivers who are not just stopping for gas. They are coming for brisket sandwiches, Beaver Nuggets, jerky, fudge, clean bathrooms, road-trip snacks, and Buc-ee’s merchandise.
For Springville, the potential upside is big.
A Buc-ee’s could pull travelers off I-15, create hundreds of jobs, and give Utah County a new roadside attraction. The location would also be well-positioned for drivers heading to Utah’s “Mighty 5” national parks — Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, and Zion — making it a natural launchpad for some of the most popular road trips in the western U.S.
But progress has been slower than fans hoped.
Local officials have approved the framework for the project, but as of spring 2026, the site west of I-15 remains undeveloped. Springville City Director of Administration Patrick Mooney told FOX 13 in March, “I think people over time would think, well, certainly this is going to be going faster than it is, but you know, the processes take time.” Springville Mayor Matt Packard previously said the city would not have moved this far without confidence in the project, but final construction details are still being worked through.
For Utah drivers, the bottom line is simple: Buc-ee’s is closer than ever, but patience is still required.
The current expectation from expansion trackers is a possible 2028 opening, though that timeline could shift as infrastructure, approvals, and construction move forward.
When Springville lands the store, Utah will not just be getting another gas station.
It will be getting a road-trip landmark built for the I-15 crowd and the millions of travelers chasing Utah’s national parks every year.
