The economy may be heading toward a recession, but junk food is already there.
Between the SNAP junk food bans…
And the factory closures…
Plus, just general shifts in consumer spending and preferences toward healthier foods…
The hits just keep on coming.

The newest sign – Utz recently announced plans to shutter its plant in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after owning and operating it for just four years.
This is a phased closure, with manufacturing slated to end in January 2026, with warehouse operations expected to cease in May.
75 people are losing their jobs – and although Utz is encouraging them to apply for open positions elsewhere in the company…we can all be pretty confident that not everyone is going to get another job at Utz.
The point is to streamline operations and reduce costs, and a big piece of that is going to be headcount reductions.
