Wisconsin is rapidly losing factories – this is something we’ve known for a while.
But when even a Wisconsin cheese factory has to close…that tells you something about how bad things have gotten.
Saputo is planning to close a cheese plant in Green Bay by the end of the year – with around 240 workers slated to lose their jobs.

This is actually a delayed closure that was originally supposed to be finished by the end of 2024, as Saputo transitions from several older plants to a newer (and more efficient) facility in Franklin.
Seemingly every food company is facing the same set of challenges – higher input costs, supply chain issues (often tied to the trade war), and of course falling consumer spending as the economy gets more wobbly.
With that as the backdrop, this move makes sense.
And of course, it’s great that workers had another year of employment, but it’s still terrible to lose your job – no matter how much notice you get.
So if you have encouragement or advice to share with the folks who are about to lose their jobs, please leave a comment on this article.
2025 is certainly shaping up to be an interesting year for the food industry – and we’ll be sure to cover every major story we can as it comes out.
