Intro

I don’t know about you, but I have a TON of nostalgia for the ’90s and some of the awesome (and often weird) snacks that came with it.
Take Trix (which I haven’t included in the formal list below, but I figured I’d talk about them now).
They were weird. But absolutely delicious!
Anyway, here are 10 more snacks that every ’90s kid will know:

#1: Dunkaroos

Dunkaroos were probably my favorite childhood snack.
The cookies were good on their own, and then when you added in the frosting that you dipped them in…just total heaven for any kid.

#2: Gushers

The thing that always made gushers special was that bit of liquified flavored sugar water in the middle.
The outer coating was fine, pretty similar to a Welch’s fruit snack – but the real gold was in that “gush” of juice (or, again, liquified flavored sugar water) in the middle.

#3: Warheads

Warheads were invented in 1975 in Taiwan and first imported to the USA in 1993.
So technically they were produced before the ’90s, but nobody in the US had them before then! (Unless you traveled to and from Taiwan.)
That combination of sweet and sour was catnip for children – I remember joining Warheads eating contests where people would try to keep three or four in their mouth while doing the most amazing puckered faces.

#4: Fun dip

A lot of people loved Fun Dip because it was essentially flavored sugar that you dipped the stick in.
I liked it just fine, but I strongly preferred the next option because it was a MUCH more efficient delivery vehicle for the sugar…

#5: Pixy stix

Genuinely, pixy stix were just sugar that you poured down your throat.
It was a huge rush, and I know plenty of people who’d try and down the really “big” straws (that were like a half-inch across) in one gulp.
(I do not recommend doing that. It’s just too much!)

#6: Bagel bites

I can’t tell you how many time I got home from school and heated up bagel bites, either at my house or a friend’s.
Having eaten them more recently – they hold up surprisingly well!
(Same for pizza rolls, which I didn’t list separately here. Always burned my mouth…)

#7: Pop rocks

You’ll be forgiven for forgetting how pop rocks tasted – because, let’s face it, that’s not why anyone got them!
We all wanted that cool feeling (and sound) of candy popping in your mouth that felt like fireworks.
And boy, did we get it!

#8: Toaster Strudel

My family was a toaster strudel family – yours may have been pop tarts, and if so, no judgment.
As far as I’m concerned, they were both delicious snacks (and all too often, breakfasts) throughout the ’90s.
I have a special place in my heart for the breakfast pizza-style toaster strudels that had egg, cheese, and sausage in them too.

#9: Lunchables

No field trip was complete without Lunchables.
I remember going with my mom to the store to pick out which Lunchables I’d get to have on those special occasions.
I usually steered toward the crackers and away from the pizzas, and I’d always angle for the one with the Reese’s dessert.

#10: Fruit by the foot

Weirdly enough, fruit by the foot was where my parents drew the line.
“Too much sugar,” they said – as if pixy stix and pop rocks hadn’t already ruined any chance of my sugar intake falling within FDA guidelines.
So I’d always grab an extra at friends’ houses.
