Intro

If you haven’t heard of Whataburger, you’re probably about to.
That’s because Whataburger is making a huge push into the East Coast, with more than two dozen locations planned among Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina over the next year.
(And dozens more planned after that – 50 in Georgia alone!)
So if you’re craving a Double Meat Whataburger…then strap in and get excited!

Whataburger’s plan

My view is that Whataburger is looking to become the next big burger joint – sort of like Five Guys did a few years ago.
(Obviously with a VERY different menu.)
You can see the signs in the fact that they’ve discontinued some niche fan favorites…
The aggressive expansion…
And so much more.
I mean, a whopping ELEVEN states are getting new Whataburgers!
Starting with…

Arizona

Arizona opened one new Whataburger in 2024 – a new location in Mesa.
(There are six Whataburgers just in Mesa. But I guess they needed all of them!)

Arkansas

This new Whataburger location opened in Clarksville, just off I-40.

Colorado

Pueblo, Colorado is getting a new Whataburger this year (2025).
Get pumped!

Florida

Tampa, Florida is expected to get a Whataburger sometime in 2026.
And obviously it’s a big enough city to support many Whataburgers, so stay tuned for (hopefully) many more to come!

Georgia

Whataburger opened nearly a dozen locations in Georgia this year, with as many as 50 total locations planned by 2030.

Mississippi

Madison, Mississippi is expected to open its first Whataburger (and Mississippi’s 13th) sometime in early 2025.

Nevada

Naturally, Nevada’s newest Whataburger (which opened up a few months ago) is in Las Vegas.
Not only is it a huge tourist trap, but Clark County (which includes Las Vegas) is more than 2/3 of the state’s population!

New Mexico

New Mexico’s newest Whataburger opened in Farmington in mid-July.

North Carolina

Whataburger is planning to start opening up in North Carolina in 2025.
The first (approved) location will be in Charlotte, but they’ve got about a dozen more in the works – so if you’re in North Carolina, get excited to chow down!

South Carolina

South Carolina went from zero Whataburgers to 10 in 2024!!!
The East Coast expansion strategy is in full swing!

Texas

Texas is Whataburger’s home, but it’s still not fully saturated – the chain is opening two new restaurants there over the next year.

Summary

Clearly Whataburger is making a big push to the East Coast.
It makes a lot of sense – Shake Shack and Five Guys have done exceptionally well on the I-95 corridor, so now it’s time to give people a taste of a REAL good burger.
Five Guys, get ready – Whataburger is coming for you!
And of course…
