1) Fan Love

Whose fans are bigger burger stans?
This one’s easy.
Maybe because you can only get In-N-Out west of the Mississippi (and even at that, only in California and 7 states), there’s a “Best Coast” pride to In-N-Out that just doesn’t happen for Five Guys, which is in every state except Alaska.

2) Price

When you mention Five Guys to a group, the first thing anyone says is “Good burgers, but gosh they’re expensive!”
Meanwhile, I’ve never heard anyone complain about In-N-Out being too expensive. Quite the opposite.

3) Toppings

Outside of the “spread,” In-N-Out is pretty weak on toppings choices.
This is where Five Guys shines brightly with 15 toppings and sauces. In addition to the usual stuff, it offers a second onion choice (grilled), two peppers (jalapeno and green), grilled mushrooms, and even A1 sauce.

4) Calories

One of my favorite things about Five Guys is that its “Hamburger” or “Cheeseburger” automatically comes with two patties. You have to get a “Little Hamburger” or “Little Cheeseburger” to get a single patty.
At In-N-Out, it’s more traditional but with stackable options like the Double-Double (two patties, two slices of cheese).
If you’re looking for fewer calories, In-N-Out is the place. Even a Double-Double w/Onion is only 610 calories (the same as a Five Guys’ Little Cheeseburger) vs. the 980 on a Five Guys’ Cheeseburger.

5) Taste

Sorry, In-N-Out, Five Guys makes the tastier burger!
Ducking my head.
In fact, I’d argue it’s the best burger out there, especially loaded up with toppings (I like it with ketchup, mustard, mayo, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, and grilled onions).

Winner: In-N-Out

In-N-Out won on Fan Love, Price, and Calories.
Five Guys won on Toppings and arguably the most important category, Taste.
In a squeaker, In-N-Out takes it home 3-2!
