National Donut Day is tomorrow (June 7th), and it’s gonna be great.
I mean, who doesn’t love donuts?
And better yet, who doesn’t love an excuse to eat more donuts?
Well, five donut shops are offering fantastic deals to give you precisely that excuse.
We’ll dive in on them in a moment, but first let’s talk a little history.

National Donut Day started nearly 90 years ago
It’s 86 years old, to be exact, and was first put in place by the Salvation Army to celebrate their “Donut Lassies”, who went to France in 1917 to care for wounded soldiers. While there, to boost morale, they made donuts.
And so, ever since the first celebration in 1938, the first Friday of every June has been designated as National Donut Day.
Naturally, lots of donut shops have tried to get in on the action. I’ve highlighted some of the very best deals for your perusal.
#5: Dunkin’
Listen, I love Dunkin’ Donuts, and I do NOT love putting them at the bottom of this list. But unlike almost everyone else on this list, they aren’t giving away a truly free donut. You have to buy a drink, and then you get a free classic donut with it. That’s still a good deal – even a great one, if you’re already going to get a coffee – but it’s a little disappointing vs what other brands are offering to celebrate this glorious holiday.
#4: Shipley Donuts
Shipley Donuts’ “free” donut offer isn’t quite as restrictive as Dunkin’s – you can get a free donut with any purchase in-store. So if you’re not looking for coffee, you could essentially set up a buy one get one deal for yourself.
That’s better thank Dunkin’s offer, for sure, but it’s still not really a free donut. If you want to get an actual, truly, free donut, why not try:
#3: LaMar’s Donuts & Coffee
LaMar’s isn’t messing around: You get a free Ray’s Original Glazed donut when you visit a Lamar’s on June 7th.
No purchase necessary, no hoops to jump through, no nonsense. Just a free donut for National Donut Day. What a concept!
(Of course, LaMar’s is a regional chain – I had their donuts in Colorado – so if they’re not local to you, scroll right on down to #2 and #1 for more options!)
I’ll quibble that I wish they’d picked a different donut from their traditional glazed – I have a soft spot for LaMar’s Chocolate Fluff Filled Long John or even just their Double Chocolate Donut – but hey, free is free! Kudos to LaMar’s for living into the true spirit of the holiday.
#2: Duck Donuts
Duck Donuts (which is my favorite East Coast regional chain) is giving customers a free cinnamon sugar donut when they visit any Duck Donuts store.
Their cinnamon sugar donuts are excellent. If you like cinnamon and fried dough, you should try them. It’s just that simple.
(Now here’s where I say – I wish they’d made the offer a little more flexible and said that people can get any one donut free, but still – they picked a good one to offer!)
#1: Krispy Kreme
Krispy Kreme is also giving away one free donut per customer in stores while supplies last. (You don’t have to buy anything to get it.) You can’t get every donut – their specialty and limited-time donuts aren’t part of the deal – but hey, that’s still plenty for you to access. That’s a great deal, but it’s not why I ranked Krispy Kreme #1.
You see, there’s ALSO a second deal which is pretty cool: When you buy any dozen donuts, they’ll give you a dozen original glazed donuts for just $2.
So you can enjoy a single donut for free or buy two dozen for the office for cheap. I appreciate them giving us all the opportunity to eat a frankly incredible volume of donuts…because, really, while healthy eating is important, we all deserve a little gluttony on National Donut Day.
