Unibrows

In some parts of the world, a unibrow isn’t something to be plucked – it’s something to embrace.
In ancient Greece, Tajikistan, and Iran, (to name a few) a unibrow is a sign of beauty and even intelligence.
Today, I see more and more models are embracing a unibrow. Chic… or strange? What do you think?

Black teeth

A bright white smile is the goal in most places.
But in ancient Japan and parts of Southeast Asian, black teeth were once a beauty trend.
Known as ohaguro in Japan, women painted their teeth black using an iron solution mixed with vinegar and tannins in tea.
Why? It was a sign of beauty and maturity.
And despite what it looked like, it was said to actually help protect teeth from decay!

Elongated necks

For the Kayan women of Myanmar, long necks are a a signature look.
But the stretched neck is just an illusion.
Their necks don’t actually get longer.
Starting in childhood, girls wear heavy brass rings around their necks.
Each year, more rings are added.
Over time, the rings push down their collarbones and ribs, giving the appearance of a long neck.
Beauty is pain, right?

Teeth sharpening

Teeth sharpening is a popular practice among certain African tribes in Tanzania and Mozambique.
To achieve this, people undergo a painful process of chiseling and filing their teeth into sharp points.
It’s not just for looks, either – it’s also done as a rite of passage into adulthood or for spiritual purposes.

Dyeing armpit hair

Forget shaving – some people prefer to dye their armpit hair instead!
But it’s not just a beauty trend – it’s about body positivity.
This trend started in America and parts of Europe as a bold feminist statement.
Instead of hiding body hair, people are embracing it – sometimes in bright rainbow colors.
Would you try it?
