Kroger is opening a major new North Texas supermarket as rivals pursue some of the country’s largest grocery expansion plans. The new Marketplace store will bring a full grocery operation, general merchandise and 14 fueling positions to the fast-growing Little Elm area.
The $40 million Kroger Marketplace at 26587 E. University Drive is scheduled to open at 6 a.m. Friday, July 31. At approximately 123,000 square feet, it is much larger than a conventional neighborhood supermarket and will serve Little Elm, Aubrey, Providence Village and nearby Denton County communities.
A supermarket built for a growth corridor
The store will include full-service grocery, produce, meat, seafood, floral and pharmacy departments. Kroger is also adding a Murray’s Cheese counter, a fresh-cut fruit kiosk and a broader selection of home goods, apparel and toys.
Outside, the fuel center will offer 14 fueling positions along with a grab-and-go kiosk for drinks and snacks. The combination is designed to turn the property into a larger weekly-shopping and convenience destination rather than a basic grocery stop.
The location was built on approximately 14 acres and will become Kroger’s 208th store in Texas, according to the company’s regional announcement. It also gives the chain a stronger position along one of North Texas’ fastest-growing residential corridors.
Opening shoppers can expect giveaways
Kroger plans prizes, gift cards and coupons for free products beginning when the doors open at 6 a.m. Grand-opening promotions are expected to continue through August 4.
Kroger Rewards members will also be eligible for a fuel discount of 30 cents per gallon during the weekends of July 31 through August 2 and August 7 through August 9, according to local opening coverage. The company should be checked for any quantity limits or changes before shoppers make a special trip.
The address has produced some geographic confusion. Kroger describes the project as serving the Little Elm area, while some reports identify the location with an Aubrey mailing designation. The store sits near the intersection of U.S. 380 and FM 2931 and is intended to draw from both communities.
Kroger also has North Texas stores under construction in Anna, Fate, McKinney, Princeton and the Sendera Ranch area. Opening dates for those projects have not been announced, making the July 31 Marketplace the region’s next confirmed Kroger debut.
