There’s just something about cherries and lime that brings me back to my childhood. But, for the life of me I can’t remember where I enjoyed that flavor combination as a kid! The closest thing I can think of (and the only thing that strikes me as plausible), is that an Italian ice cart opened up on a pedestrian part of a main street in my hometown when I was in high school.
We’d gather around the cart on warm spring days after school, and bombard him with orders. In my memory, the only thing I ever ordered was a lemon ice.
But, when I first had a sip of this drink I practically felt the sun on my legs in shorts and the sound of childhood friends laughter in my ears.
So, Mr. Italian Ice man, this glass of pure refreshment is for you.
