A fast-growing burger chain is moving beyond its traditional restaurant format as it looks to bring its steakburgers and frozen custard to more communities. With hundreds of locations already operating, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is preparing for another phase of expansion, including new markets in the United States and overseas.
Freddy’s targets new locations across the country
Freddy’s reached a major milestone on October 12, opening its 600th restaurant in Beaufort, South Carolina. The chain was expected to open approximately 60 restaurants during 2026 as it continues expanding its footprint.
The Wichita, Kansas-based company is targeting several regions for future growth, including the Northeast, Midwest, Pacific Northwest, Northern California, and Florida. Its expansion strategy includes both new markets and additional restaurants in areas where it already operates.
Rather than relying exclusively on standalone buildings, Freddy’s is increasingly considering inline restaurants and end-cap locations with drive-thru access. These formats can give franchisees more flexibility when choosing real estate and may offer lower initial development costs than traditional freestanding restaurants.
Chain prepares for international growth
Freddy’s is also pursuing opportunities outside North America. In October, the company announced a five-unit development agreement in the Philippines, marking its first development deal in Southeast Asia. The first restaurant is anticipated to open in 2027.
More restaurants on the horizon
Founded in 2002, Freddy’s is known for its cooked-to-order steakburgers, shoestring fries, and freshly churned frozen custard (similar to Culver’s). Its latest expansion plans reflect a strategy of reaching new customers through a wider variety of restaurant formats and franchise partnerships.
Although the company has not announced a specific total for 2027 openings, its growing development pipeline and planned international entry point to continued expansion beyond its 600-restaurant milestone.
