Homemade Face Wash Recipe
For this recipe you will need castile soap, raw honey, rose water (or distilled water), olive oil, and essential oils. You will also need a foaming container.
Use a medium bowl or measuring cup to mix the soap ingredients together. Start by combining the castile soap, honey, and rose water. Stir gently, making sure not to agitate the mixture too much.
Next, add in the carrier oil and essential oils. Mix gently.
Pour the homemade face wash into dispenser bottle. Top with a foaming applicator.
Store the homemade face wash in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
How To Use: Use like you would a conventional face wash. Apply the wash to your face, moving in a circular motion. Make sure to avoid the eyes as castile soap can irritate the eyes. Rinse with lukewarm water.
Variations for Skin Types:
- Acne Face Wash: Hempseed oil is safe for acne-prone skin and is a great substitute for olive oil in this recipe. Avoid using coconut oil as it will cause skin breakouts for most with acne prone skin.
- Oily Skin: You may omit the oil in this recipe if you prefer. Use essential oils like lemon, lavender, or tea tree oil to help with balancing oily skin.
- Sensitive Skin: Follow the recipe as written, but omit the essential oils. Use this method along with the oil cleansing method to help keep your skin hydrated and soft.
- Dry Skin: Swap the olive oil for jojoba oil or argan oil for extra moisture and follow up with apple cider vinegar toner. The combination of this face wash with the acv toner works great for dry skin.
- Combination Skin: The recipe as written is great for combination sky types
Best Essential Oils for Homemade Face Washes:
Essential oils not only add a lovely scent to your homemade face wash, but they also add antibacterial properties. Some essential oils offer anti inflammatory properties and are great for soothing the skin. Below are my recommendations for using essential oils in this recipe:
- Essential oils for sensitive skin: Rose, geranium, and lavender essential oil are my go-to essential oils for those with sensitive skin.
- Oils for Dry Skin: Frankincense, ylang ylang, and clary sage are some of the best essential oils for dry skin.
- Essential oils for Oily Skin: Tea tree, cypress and citrus oils are my go-to for oily skin types.
