Georgia’s economy, long a bright spot for the United States, is having a rough 2025.
More specifically, the state has already suffered the loss of several factories…
And unfortunately, the pain isn’t over yet.

More specifically, by the end of this month, International Paper is shutting down its mills in Savannah and Riceboro, at the cost of 1,100 good manufacturing jobs.
These mills manufacture paper and packaging closely tied to the food supply chain, and they’re just the latest in a series of closures we’ve seen as companies reduce their packaging footprint.
The food industry has been rocked by a series of tough headwinds this year – inflation on food inputs, growing labor costs and shortages, tariffs and the trade war, and of course increasingly price-sensitive consumers faced with a flagging economy.
So the reductions make sense. But that’s cold comfort for the 1,100 hardworking Georgians who are out of a job by the end of this month.
