This melt-and-pour turmeric soap is great for sensitive skin and is an easy DIY recipe for beginner soap makers!

If you enjoy making soap or are looking to get started, this simple turmeric soap recipe is a great place to start! Made with a melt-and-pour soap base, all you have to do is melt the soap, add in the spices and essential oils, and pour it into molds.
Why Turmeric?
Turmeric is used in many skincare products like face masks and body scrubs because of its skin-brightening properties, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties.
How To Make Turmeric Soap
For this DIY, you will need one pound of melt-and-pour soap base (I used this one), one teaspoon of ground turmeric, and essential oils.
Cut the soap base into small chunks and place them into a heat-proof measuring bowl.
Place the bowl in the microwave and melt the soap in 30-second intervals until it melts completely, about 2 1/2 minutes.
Allow the soap base to cool slightly before adding the turmeric and essential oils.

Add one teaspoon of ground turmeric powder to the bowl and mix with a silicon spatula. Add the essential oils and continue to mix until thoroughly combined.
Place the soap molds on a flat surface and pour the soap base into the molds, filling each mold to the top. Continue to fill until the soap is gone.
Allow the soap to cure for 4-8 hours. You may place the turmeric soap into the fridge to speed up the process. Do not be tempted to freeze the soap bars as this may cause the soap to separate and not set correctly.
Once the soap has set, you may remove it from the soap mold. Store the soap in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months.

DIY Turmeric Soap FAQ
Is turmeric safe to use on the skin?
Yes, turmeric is generally safe for topical use, especially in small amounts as used in this soap recipe. It is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, making it beneficial for sensitive skin types.
Will turmeric stain my skin or the bathtub?
Turmeric can temporarily stain skin if used in high concentrations. In this soap recipe, the turmeric is diluted in the soap base and essential oils, minimizing the risk of staining. However, rinse thoroughly after use to prevent any residual color. It’s also a good practice to clean your bathtub promptly after each use.
Can I use fresh turmeric instead of ground turmeric?
It’s best to use ground turmeric for this recipe, as fresh turmeric may introduce extra moisture and potentially affect the soap’s consistency and shelf life.
What essential oils work well with turmeric in soap?
Essential oils like lavender, tea tree, chamomile, and geranium complement the earthy scent of turmeric. Choose oils based on your preferences and their additional skincare benefits.
How long does this soap last?
When stored properly in a cool, dry place, this turmeric soap can last up to 6 months. Ensure it is kept in a soap dish that allows for drainage to prolong its lifespan.
Can I add other ingredients to this soap recipe?
Yes, you can customize this recipe by adding ingredients like dried herbs, oatmeal, or clays for additional skin benefits. Ensure any additives are suitable for use in melt-and-pour soap bases.
Can I use a different soap base than melt-and-pour?
This recipe is specifically designed for melt-and-pour soap bases, which are beginner-friendly and require no curing time. If you prefer to make cold-process soap, you would need to adjust the recipe and follow proper safety guidelines for handling lye.
Can I use this soap on my face?
Yes, this turmeric soap is gentle enough for facial use, especially for those with sensitive skin. Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties can help calm skin irritation and promote a bright complexion.
How do I prevent air bubbles in the soap when pouring into molds?
To minimize air bubbles, pour the melted soap base slowly and from a low height into the molds. Gently tap the molds on a flat surface to release any trapped air bubbles before the soap sets.
