A longtime H-E-B location in Austin is preparing to close its doors, bringing an end to decades of service for neighborhood shoppers. Northwest Austin store closing this summer
H-E-B announced that its Spicewood Springs store at 12860 Research Boulevard in northwest Austin was set to permanently close on July 31, 2026. The grocery chain said the location is nearing the end of its lease and that it chose not to renew the agreement after evaluating its store network.
The store has served the surrounding community for decades and is one of H-E-B’s older, smaller-format locations. As customer preferences have shifted toward larger stores with expanded services, the company has continued investing in newer locations throughout the Austin area.
Customers will still have nearby options
H-E-B emphasized that the closure is not part of a companywide downsizing effort. Instead, customers will be directed to nearby H-E-B stores in northwest Austin, where they can continue shopping for groceries, pharmacy services and other offerings. The company thanked employees and customers for their loyalty and support over the years.

The closing comes during a year that has seen numerous longtime businesses across Austin announce departures, including restaurants, coffee shops and other neighborhood staples.
