New York’s grocery map is changing again as another Westchester supermarket prepares to close, adding to the store closures that have reshaped shopping across the state in 2026. Balducci’s Food Lover’s Market in Rye Brook is scheduled to shut down December 10, affecting 38 workers.
The specialty grocer operates at 144 South Ridge Street in Rye Ridge Shopping Center. A newly filed state notice identifies Acme Markets Inc., the legal employer behind the store, and lists the closing as permanent.

The closure will eliminate 38 positions
New York’s WARN database lists December 10 as the effective date for both the permanent closure and 38 permanent layoffs. The notice was posted October 23, giving employees and local workforce agencies advance warning before the store shuts down.
The filing confirms that 38 positions are being eliminated, but it does not say whether any employees will be offered transfers to another store. It also does not provide details about severance or identify which departments will be affected.
Balducci’s has not posted a public closure announcement on its website, and the Rye Brook store page remains active. That page still lists the location’s regular hours, grocery pickup, delivery, bakery, deli and prepared-food services.
A specialty market is leaving Rye Ridge
Balducci’s opened in the shopping center in January 2017, bringing its mix of fresh produce, prepared meals, bakery items, catering and specialty groceries to the village. The December shutdown will end a run of nearly 10 years at the location.
The employer name in the state filing may cause some confusion. Acme Markets acquired Balducci’s and Kings Food Markets in 2021, so the WARN notice uses Acme’s corporate name even though shoppers know the store by the Balducci’s banner. The filing address matches the Balducci’s market at 144 South Ridge Street.
Other grocery options remain nearby
Rye Brook will still have a full-service ACME Markets store at 261 South Ridge Street, a separate location on the same road. Balducci’s also continues to list a Westchester County market in Scarsdale, although that option will be farther away for many Rye Brook shoppers.
The biggest change will be the loss of a specialty-food destination inside Rye Ridge Shopping Center. Customers who rely on its prepared foods, catering, delivery or pickup services will need to make other plans after December 10.
No replacement tenant has been announced for the space. The company also has not disclosed why it is closing the store or whether workers will receive transfer offers, leaving the employee transition and the shopping center’s next move unresolved.
