Intro

People LOVE to argue about food.
And there are some foods that cause intense arguments (beets, spicy Indian food, kimchi, etc.).
But we went looking for the foods we can all agree on.
Yes, some will have dietary restrictions and there’s always an exception or two, but these are the seven universal foods that virtually no one hates!

1) Pizza

A rose by any other name: New York, Chicago, Neapolitan
Pizza may be THE most universal food.
It’s the default to feed kids’ birthday parties and late-night work sessions alike.
Supremely customizable for any dietary restriction (gluten-free crust, vegan cheese, etc.) or any food obsession (e.g. meat lover’s)!
I dare you to hate on pizza in the comments…I know the world has my back!

2) Pancakes

A rose by any other name: Crepes, pancakes, blini, dosa
The only real question here is how many you want stacked up!
I like mine with lots of melted butter and the syrup on the side. I won’t say no to sausage and eggs as well.

3) Ice Cream

A rose by any other name: Gelato, ice cream, sorbet, sherbet, soft serve.
That cold, creamy, rich goodness hits the spot whether it’s from an ice cream truck, a Baskin-Robbins, or to end a high-end meal.
I may personally love it more in the winter than the summer!

4) Bread

A rose by any other name: Wheat, white, sourdough, rye, pita, tortilla, naan, bagel, bao, arepa, baguette, croissant.
Whether it’s bookending a sandwich, eaten with a slathering of butter, or made into French toast, bread is a universal love!
From “Give us this day our daily bread” to Jean Valjean stealing a loaf of bread, the religious and literary tradition supports it.

5) Pasta

A rose by any other name: Spaghetti, mac & cheese, lasagna, pesto gnocchi, ramen, pierogi, zoodles, lo mein.
Noodles are pretty darn universal, whether you call them pasta or something else.

6) Potatoes

A rose by any other name: French fries, mashed potatoes, potato chips, hash browns, baked potato soup, aloo gobi, colcannon, tater tots.
We could have ended the discussion with French fries, but we figured we’d be inclusive here.

7) Chocolate

A rose by any other name: Milk, dark, white, hot.
Maybe the most universally beloved dessert.
We can argue about which type or which expression (chocolate chip cookies, cake, ice cream, candy bars, etc.), but who doesn’t love chocolate?
