The US manufacturing downturn is closing factories everywhere.
In fact, it’s so bad that some are calling it the “end of Made in America.”
Unfortunately, even incredibly business-friendly states like North Carolina are not immune.
Especially as the combination of tariffs, supply chain disruptions, soaring food and labor costs, and falling consumer spending upend the food industry.

North Carolina has already lost factories – and now unfortunately two more have just closed as well.
- Panera Bread closed its fresh dough facility in Greensboro in late May, and
- J&J Snack Foods shut down its snack production facility at the end of July.
All told, it’s over 100 jobs lost – that means workers looking for new employment in an economy that is steadily tightening.
