New Jersey is having a rough 2025.
Bad enough that so many factories are closing.
But worse is the ever-growing list of restaurants shutting down as national chains go bankrupt or dramatically downsize.

The issues are straightforward – chain restaurants have been taking it on the chin for years due to the rise of delivery apps and the COVID overhang…
Of course, add to that the fact that consumer preferences are rapidly shifting toward local businesses…growing food costs and labor shortages…and consumer spending pullbacks tied to the overall economic slowdown…
And it’s something of a perfect storm.
A perfect storm that, unfortunately, has claimed several restaurants in New Jersey:
- Bar Louie in East Brunswick
- On The Border in Toms River
- Bahama Breeze in Paramus, Toms River, Wayne, and Woodbridge
Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg for New Jersey’s true restaurant losses – these are just the big national chains!
