Perdue has had a rough go of it this year, and unfortunately the news has gone from bad to worse.
The broader meatpacking industry is facing a huge contraction, and Perdue is not immune.

The latest victim? A meatpacking plant in Monterey, Tennessee which closed down earlier this Spring with 433 jobs lost.
The bigger picture
The extensive meatpacking losses this year have highlighted just how many people the industry employs in the United States. Perdue alone employs over 20,000 people. (The meat and poultry industry as a whole employed over half a million people as of 2021.)
But with the extensive losses in US manufacturing this year, it seems that these jobs may not be coming back any time soon.
What’s next for these workers? Time will tell.
