Intro (continued)

We defined “date night” restaurants as sit-down restaurants, generally with waitstaff. As opposed to fast food or fast casual.
We used survey data from YouGov to identify the top 10 that get the most fans, factoring in how well-known the restaurant is.
In other words, we made sure under-the-radar chains were on equal footing with the big national chains we all know.
Let’s get to the top 10…

#10 Texas Roadhouse

Percentage of People Who Have Heard of It: 91%
Percentage of Those People Who Are Fans: 66%
Texas Roadhouse just does the steakhouse experience well, with wonderful attention to detail. So it’s no surprise it makes our top 10. Two-thirds of the people who know Texas Roadhouse love it.

#9 Applebee’s

Percentage of People Who Have Heard of It: 97%
Percentage of Those People Who Are Fans: 66%
I was a little surprised Applebee’s made the list, but maybe I shouldn’t be. It’s a solid enough choice for both happy hours and date nights.
Still, I would have loved to have seen Olive Garden crack the top 10 (spoiler: it didn’t…it would have ranked 13th).

#8 Maggiano’s Little Italy

Percentage of People Who Have Heard of It: 59%
Percentage of Those People Who Are Fans: 66%
Maggiano’s is a great “red sauce” Italian chain. All your favorites are there from lasagna to “The Finest Fettucine Alfredo” to even a spaghetti and meatballs dish made with Wagyu beef!
With only about 50 locations in the US, it’s not the most well-known restaurant on the list, but it’s well worth seeking out!

#7 Longhorn Steakhouse

Percentage of People Who Have Heard of It: 87%
Percentage of Those People Who Are Fans: 67%
With more than 10 times the number of U.S. locations as Maggiano’s Longhorn Steakhouse is more well-known. Its grilled steaks and hearty sides make it a fan favorite.
It’s a little sparse on the West Coast, so East Coasters know this one better. Shout out to Florida, with the most locations!

#6 Morton’s The Steakhouse

Percentage of People Who Have Heard of It: 64%
Percentage of Those People Who Are Fans: 67%
Morton’s is one we debated. This fancy steakhouse is in a different weight class in terms of price.
Still, other high-end restaurants didn’t make the cut.
While I personally prefer The Capital Grille for a splurge, America voted, and Morton’s beats it out!

#5 Black Angus Steakhouse

Percentage of People Who Have Heard of It: 68%
Percentage of Those People Who Are Fans: 68%
Yes, this is the third straight steak place! And there’s one more on the way, but I promise that’ll end the run.
Black Angus is West Side only (a few dozen locations in Arizona, California, Hawaii, New Mexico, and Washington) and known for its prime rib as well as its steaks. There are loads of seafood and non-steak options as well.

#4 Outback Steakhouse

Percentage of People Who Have Heard of It: 97%
Percentage of Those People Who Are Fans: 68%
The highest-scoring steakhouse on our list, Outback is a classic favorite, blending the fun of an Australian theme with great steaks. Maybe even better than the steaks are the bread and the salad (it’s what I look forward to, at least). And, of course, that Bloomin’ Onion!

#3 Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen

Percentage of People Who Have Heard of It: 47%
Percentage of Those People Who Are Fans: 68%
Have you heard of Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen? It’s Houston-based but inspired by New Orleans’ French Quarter. That means plenty of Cajun and Creole influences and dishes like Pasta Mardi Gras and Hot Honey Glazed Gator Bites in addition to all kinds of wonderful seafood!

#2 The Cheesecake Factory

Percentage of People Who Have Heard of It: 94%
Percentage of Those People Who Are Fans: 68%
If you can’t find something you’re excited about on The Cheesecake Factory’s menu, you just don’t like food!
Usually when a menu mixes genres from Mexican to Asian to Italian to Classic American, it’s best to simply walk out. But The Cheesesteak Factory is the exception that proves the rule on specialization.
And we didn’t even mention the more than two dozen cheesecakes you can choose from!

#1 HuHot Mongolian Grill

Percentage of People Who Have Heard of It: 41%
Percentage of Those People Who Are Fans: 68%
In a huge upset, HuHot Mongolian Grill is the #1-rated “date night” restaurant.
Only 41% of survey respondents had heard of this rare Montana-based restaurant, but it’s in 17 states now, mostly in the middle of the country.
For those unfamiliar with a Mongolian Grill, you basically create your own stir fry. You grab a bowl and fill it with your choices from a buffet, and then hand it over to the cooks who make it on a huge, curcular Mongolian grill. Add in some showmanship, and you’re ready to eat!
