Intro

Next to Halloween, Easter is the best yearly excuse to eat a ton of delicious candy!
As adults, we can certainly partake.
But for this list of the greatest Easter candies (outside of homemade candy cups), we used the simple test of how excited a child would be to get the candy in their Easter basket. With bonus points if it’s only available during Easter.
Let’s get to the top 10…

#10 Whoppers Robin Eggs

Whoppers Robin Eggs are controversial because not everyone loves the malted chocolate candy.
I’m a fan, but I definitely notice that I can take my time raiding the package because most people are going for items further up this list.

#9 M&M’s Eggs

M&M’s has various Easter candy variations for Easter…pretty much the same candies except in pastels and/or egg-shaped.
So only partial credit for being available just for Easter.
Now, of course, if you believe that the different-colored M&M’s taste differently…
I don’t, but the greens are the best. Just saying.

#8 Sour Patch Kids

Sour Patch Kids are my personal favorite, but it’s hard to put them much higher on this list.
Even with the “bunnies” variant for Easter.
Still, that “sour then sweet” goodness is hard to turn down!

#7 Kinder Joy Eggs

Is it cheating to hide a toy in your chocolate?
Is the actual chocolate secondary?
Maybe on the first and definitely on the second.
Still, this is a sure winner with kids on Easter morning.

#6 Hershey’s Eggs

Hershey’s is a staple of any candy celebration.
They have all sorts of stuff for Easter (though much of it is the same old stuff with different packaging).
But the Hershey’s Eggs are a strong choice to represent the Hershey’s contingent of candies.

#5 Chocolate Bunny

This is certainly a form over function pick.
Eating a chocolate bunny? Overrated. Receiving a chocolate bunny? Epic!
No matter which brand of chocolate bunny you favor, getting one in your Easter basket is a “wow” factor.

#4 Jelly Beans

We’re getting into the territory where each candy has a strong argument for #1.
The chocolate bunny certainly does. But so do jelly beans.
Can you imagine an Easter without them? I can’t.
In terms of brand, I favor the classic flavors of Jelly Belly. But Starburst, Skittles, and others are quite popular.

#3 Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs

The Reese’s Peanut Butter Egg is such a hit!
Personally, I prefer the original Reese’s Cups to this softer version, but this is an annual debate.
Still, this is only the #2 “egg” on this list…

#2 Cadbury Creme Eggs

I look forward to Cadbury Creme Eggs every year when they’re available between New Year’s and Easter.
The original gets the nod here, but the Caramel Egg has really come on!
It’s the top chocolate-based candy on this list…

#1 Peeps

Peeps isn’t everyone’s #1, and I’ve been reading that its popularity varies by region (for example, it’s extremely popular in Boston).
These marshmallow and sugar goodies are just plain fun.
What gets them over the top in a competitive list of candies is the ability to pop them in the microwave to watch them expand.
You could make one heck of a s’more with these, too.
Like I said, just plain fun…for kids and adults alike!
