Intro

If you’ve been to Cracker Barrel recently, you’ve probably noticed that the menu has changed.
And in my opinion, clearly for the better.
(Although there have been some pretty heartbreaking losses too.)
There are lots of new dishes – some seasonal, some more permanent.

Intro (continued…)

I wanted to pick out a few of my favorites, many of which are dishes and flavor combinations I’ve been wanting from Cracker Barrel for a long time.
So with that – on to the list!
Starting with…
Shutterstock
#1: Oreo stuffed cheesecake pancake breakfast

Do you love Oreos? Cheesecake? Chocolate? Pancakes?
All the above? Yes?
Great, then get this dish.
It’s for you.

#2: Chocolate chip pancake plate

It’s not quite as decadent as the Oreo stuffed cheesecake pancake breakfast, of course.
But it’s still pretty sweet!
And in addition to the two pancakes, you also get two eggs and a breakfast meat.
Your full choices:

Your egg choices

For eggs:
– Egg whites
– Over easy
– Over medium
– Over well

– Sunny side up

Your meat choices

Several good ones here:
– Bacon (three slices)
– Smoked sausage (two patties)
– Impossible sausage (two patties)
– Spicy chicken sausage (two links)
– Sugar cured ham (one slice)
– Country ham (one slice)

#3: Blueberry pancake plate

Same as the chocolate chip pancake plate, but with blueberries this time!
And don’t forget the syrup…

#4: Onion petals

Do you love Outback’s Bloomin’ Onion?
Have you ever wished Cracker Barrel had something similar?
Congrats. We’re here.
I mean, it’s not quite the same shape as a Bloomin’ Onion – but you’ve got the same fried onion petals, plus Cracker Barrel’s “Country Comeback” sauce.

#5: Crispy tender dippers

For this dish, you get six chicken tenders, up to three sauces for dipping, and two sides plus biscuits or muffins.
Let’s dive right in.

The sauces

Obviously the most important thing to pair with the chicken!
Your choices are…
– Country Comeback
– Nashville hot
– Carolina gold bbq
– Maple chipotle
– Buttermilk ranch
– BBQ sauce
– Honey mustard
My advice? Country Comeback, Carolina gold, and honey mustard. But your mileage may vary!

No-cost sides

There are a lot of them. Let’s start with the veggies:
– Broccoli
– Carrots
– Cole slaw (that counts as a veggie, right?)
– Corn
– Green beans
– Fried okra
– Turnip greens

…and the rest

Still more to come!
– Mashed potatoes
– Mashed potatoes with brown gravy or sawmill gravy
– Macaroni n’ cheese
– Pinto beans
– Steak fries
– Hashbrown casserole
– Fried apples
– Seasoned rice

#6: Big easy steak & shrimp

New York strip steak is possibly my favorite cut of meat, and when you add grilled shrimp and a creole sauce…it’s perfection.
You get two sides and biscuits or corn muffins, too.
It’s like a surf n’ turf – done right.

#7: Signature saucy chicken sandwich

I love this sandwich because it can be whatever you want it to be.
I mean, of course, it’s always going to be a fried chicken sandwich – but you can drizzle any of Cracker Barrel’s sauces on it.
You want spicy? Great, get Nashville hot sauce.
Want something zestier? Country Comeback.
Traditional BBQ? BBQ sauce, or Carolina Gold BBQ if you like mustard.
Honey mustard chicken? You know the drill.
Plus, of course, a side of your choice.

#8: Louisiana-style shrimp skillet

If you like your seafood with a little kick, you’ll love the new Louisiana-style shrimp skillet, which combines grilled shrimp and a creole sauce, plus grilled parmesan bread.
And of course, two sides. My recommendation? Make one of them rice so you can easily soak up all that sauce.

#9: Strawberry lemonade icebox pie

If you’ve ever had Red Robin’s freckled lemonade (which is basically strawberries, sugary strawberry juice, and lemonade), you know what a great combination of flavors you can get with strawberries and lemonade.
It’s that perfect blend of sweet and tart.
Cracker Barrel’s strawberry icebox pie delivers the goods, along with a flavorful graham cracker crust that really sets this dessert apart.

Cracker Barrel’s getting more creative

I am really impressed with some of Cracker Barrel’s new flavors – Granny Smith being one of them.
It feels like they’re taking risks and trying new things, maybe a reflection of the CEO’s push for greater relevance for this beloved brand.
(Of course, creativity can be a double-edged sword – they’ve tried some stuff that’s also…a little weird.)
