It’s so competitive that McDonald’s, Domino’s and Chick-fil-A didn’t even make the top 10. Neither did In-N-Out!

Before we get to the list, you may be wondering how we ranked the restaurants.
We used the latest survey data (first quarter of 2025) from YouGov and calculated the percentage of people who like a restaurant given that they know the restaurant.
That puts niche, regional chains on the same footing as the big boys…

Honorable Mentions

Domino’s is the closest of the famous restaurants we mentioned to cracking the top 10. It came in at #11.
Note that we excluded well-scoring coffee or dessert-focused restaurants like Dunkin’, Krispy Kreme, Cinnabon, Baskin-Robbins, and Dairy Queen (you can see our dessert rankings here).

#10 Peter Piper Pizza

Know It: 48%
Like It: 33%
% of People Who Know It Who Like It: 69%
If you don’t know Peter Piper Pizza, you may know its sister restaurant Chuck E. Cheese. This one is clearly for a certain demographic (read: kids and parents with kids) in the “have a birthday party with games and pizza” set.
Let’s move on to one that’s more for a general audience…

#9 Popeyes

Know It: 96%
Like It: 66%
% of People Who Know It Who Like It: 69%
The top-scoring fried chicken place has excellent spicing and strong sides. People clearly do “love that chicken from Popeyes!”

#8 Big Apple Bagels

Know It: 42%
Like It: 29%
% of People Who Know It Who Like It: 69%
With only 42% of survey respondents knowing this one, Big Apple Bagels flies a bit under the radar. With under 100 locations, it’s mostly in the Midwest, with around half its locations in Michigan.
And, no, none of Big Apple Bagels’ locations is in New York.

#7 Taco Bell

Know It: 98%
Like It: 68%
% of People Who Know It Who Like It: 69%
Taco Bell makes a strong showing here with high marks for both name recognition and love. Like a Big Mac at McDonald’s, when you’re craving a Taco Bell taco or bean burrito, nothing else will do!

#6 A&W Restaurants

Know It: 90%
Like It: 63%
% of People Who Know It Who Like It: 70%
This one surprised me, but the people have spoken with a 70% approval rating for this root beer-forward hamburger stand that’s been around for over 100 years!

#5 Olive Garden

Know It: 97%
Like It: 68%
% of People Who Know It Who Like It: 70%
Yes, there are certainly fancier Italian restaurants, but Olive Garden brings it every time with its never-ending salad, breadsticks, and soup to accompany its menu full of red sauce favorites!

#4 Eat’n Park

Know It: 41%
Like It: 29%
% of People Who Know It Who Like It: 71%
It’s no wonder only 41% recognize this one. This Pittsburgh-born chain of diners only operates in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia.
I can attest that it’s a solid, if unspectacular, choice. Bonus points for its signature Smiley Cookies.

The top-rated steakhouse does it with an impressive focus on quality for the price. Throw in some free entertainment with restaurant staff line dancing, and what’s not to like?

#2 Blake’s Lotaburger

Founded by Blake Chanslor in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the early 1950’s, Blake’s Lotaburger has expanded to about 75 locations in three states (New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas).
And it’s only surpassed by one restaurant…

#1 Nathan’s Famous

Know It: 71%
Like It: 54%
% of People Who Know It Who Like It: 76%
Yup, the sponsor of the annual July 4th hot dog eating contest is America’s favorite restaurant! From its Coney Island roots, it’s now in half of our 50 states (including one in Alaska!).
The hot dogs are the move, but they have so much more including burgers, chicken sandwiches, and cheesesteaks. Gotta get the crinkle cut fries and a shake, too!
