Intro

Everyone has opinions about vegetables — some people love them, others tolerate them, and a few still avoid them like it’s second grade.
But have you ever wondered which veggies are actually the most liked across America?
Thanks to YouGov’s Q1 2025 popularity data, we now know which vegetables Americans truly enjoy eating.
Some results were predictable, but a few caught me off guard.
Let’s take a look at the top 10…

#10: Vine Tomatoes

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 98%
Percent of Americans who like it: 78%
My take: This one instantly makes me think of summer. Juicy, vibrant, and usually a little sweeter than your average tomato — vine tomatoes are peak farmers market energy. I get why they made the list. (And yes, I get that tomatoes are technically fruit as are others on this list, but they’re a vegetable for these purposes!)

#9: Cucumbers

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 99%
Percent of Americans who like it: 78%
My take: Subtle, sure — but cucumbers are quietly essential. Tossed into salads, packed in lunches, or sliced thin for a quick cucumber salad, they’re refreshing and versatile. Plus, most kids will eat them, which is saying something.

##8: Romaine Lettuce

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 98%
Percent of Americans who like it: 78%
My take: Really? Lettuce? I was surprised this ranked so high — it doesn’t exactly taste like much. But romaine does give you that crisp, clean crunch that makes a Caesar salad what it is. And burrito bowls and burger bowls wouldn’t be the same without it…

#7: Green Beans

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 99%
Percent of Americans who like it: 78%
My take: I know people love their green beans, but I’ve never totally understood the hype. Maybe I’m just not preparing them right — they’re clearly doing something for a lot of people.

#6: Tomatoes

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 98%
Percent of Americans who like it: 79%
My take: I get that not everyone loves raw tomatoes — the texture, the seeds, the acidity. But something magical happens when you cook them. Roasted, sauced, stewed… they completely transform. And let’s be real — if Americans were thinking about their favorite foods here (ahem… pizza, spaghetti, etc.), it makes total sense they ranked this high.

#5: Broccoli

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 99%
Percent of Americans who like it: 80%
My take: I love broccoli and honestly thought I was in the minority — but I guess not! Roasted with garlic or steamed with a little butter, it’s so good. And hey, it’s pretty good for you too!

#4: Garlic

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 99%
Percent of Americans who like it: 80%
My take: I don’t usually think of garlic as a vegetable… but yeah, I guess it is! And in my opinion, you can never have too much of it. Whether it’s roasted whole or minced into every dish I cook, garlic makes everything better.

#3: Carrots

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 99%
Percent of Americans who like it: 81%
My take: Raw carrots are kind of my new obsession — crunchy, slightly sweet, and great for gut health. But roasted carrots? Easily one of my favorite side dishes. Sweet, caramelized, and cozy. I’m happy to see them in third place.

#2: Sweet Corn

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 98%
Percent of Americans who like it: 83%
My take: It almost doesn’t feel like a vegetable because it tastes so good. Fresh sweet corn in the summer is unbeatable — buttery, juicy, and usually the first thing to disappear at a barbecue.

#1: Potatoes

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 99%
Percent of Americans who like it: 90%
My take: Not surprising at all. Americans love their potatoes — fried, mashed, baked, you name it. They’re the ultimate comfort food and the backbone of so many meals. Honestly, I’d be more surprised if they weren’t #1!
