Jersey Mike’s has recently earned strong customer-satisfaction headlines, including a ranking we covered when the sandwich chain moved ahead of Chick-fil-A. That makes a viral Reddit complaint about one Long Island order especially striking.
In a September 6 Reddit post with more than 700 upvotes, a customer said an order from the Bohemia, New York, location arrived with missing paid bacon, unwanted toppings and a sandwich that appeared to have just one piece of meat and one piece of cheese. “This shit is sad,” the poster wrote, adding that they did not plan to return.

One bad sandwich is not a chain-wide policy
The replies immediately split into two camps. Some customers said they had also noticed thinner sandwiches or higher prices. Others argued that the post looked like a straightforward restaurant mistake rather than evidence of a corporate decision. One commenter put it plainly: a worker messed up the order; the CEO did not personally tell anyone to forget the bacon.
That is the most important caveat in this story. The complaint is specific to one order at one restaurant, and there is no evidence that Jersey Mike’s instructed stores to serve sandwiches like the one described. Franchise and employee execution can create very different experiences even under the same brand.
Other customers are getting the opposite experience
A separate late-September Reddit post showed two large Jersey Mike’s subs with extra meat that the customer described as “monsters.” Other fans in recent discussions have praised the chain for being consistent, fresh and worth the price, particularly when compared with other sandwich options.
The company has also been going through a major ownership transition. Blackstone announced in November 2024 that it would acquire a majority stake in Jersey Mike’s, while founder Peter Cancro would retain a significant equity stake and continue leading the business. The stated plan focused on expansion and technology investment. There is no evidence connecting that ownership change to the Long Island order in the Reddit post.
Consistency is the real story
For a sandwich chain, the promise is simple: customers expect the sub they order today to look roughly like the one they loved last month. A forgotten cookie or topping can be fixed. A visibly skimpy sandwich can change how someone feels about the entire brand.
The viral post is not proof that Jersey Mike’s quality is declining everywhere. It is a reminder that individual restaurants carry the reputation of the whole chain. When one order looks dramatically different from what a customer expects, the internet makes sure plenty of other people see it too.
