As if West Virginia needed more bad news this year…
American factories are closing at a rapid pace in 2025 as the economy rapidly falters thanks to the trade war.
In fact, it’s so bad that some are calling it the end of “made in America.”
And West Virginia is directly suffering the impacts, as it recently lost another factory.

More specifically, Novelis recently closed its aluminum plant in Fairmont, West Virginia – at the cost of far too many good, stable, local jobs.
Aluminum plants like Novelis’ have taken it on the chin since tariffs were announced earlier this year, as the combination of higher input costs and falling demand from consumers and businesses (who are pulling back spending due to uncertainty) has been brutal for margins.
You can’t raise prices if people don’t want to buy all of what you’re already producing.
And the retaliatory tariffs and boycotts instituted around the world against American goods have caused further damage to an already teetering economy.
And unfortunately, the good people of West Virginia are paying the price.
So please join us in wishing the impacted workers well as they navigate a tough job market and increasingly fragile economy.
