Intro

Cracker Barrel just released some fantastic new menu options that I think you’re gonna love.
And while I keep a running tally of Cracker Barrel menu additions I’ve wanted for years that Cracker Barrel has FINALLY decided to grant…
Fact is, several of these new items took me by surprise.
But let’s face facts:

Cracker Barrel is struggling
Cracker Barrel has been having a rough go of things for the past few years.
Heck, the CEO even said, and I quote, “We’re just not as relevant as we once were” last year.
But you know what they say – when times get tough, the tough get going.

Anatomy of a turnaround

Cracker Barrel isn’t just waiting for things to turn around.
They’re actively working to make things better.
And a big piece of that is new menu items – like these five that, frankly, have wowed me:

Crispy Tender Dippers

These are basically chicken tenders with up to three sauces, along with two sides and either biscuits or muffins.
The sauce options are what make this interesting:
– Carolina gold BBQ
– Maple chipotle
– Buttermilk ranch
– BBQ sauce
– Honey mustard
– Or their brand-new…

Nashville Hot Sauce

Nashville hot chicken has been having a moment, so it’s no surprise to see Cracker Barrel jumping on the bandwagon.
Their new Nashville hot sauce has got that perfect spicy kick that any spicy chicken fan will love.
(And best of all, you can get it as a dipping sauce with tons of meals, not just the chicken dippers.)
One use case that I’m really excited about is the new…

Signature Saucy Chicken Sandwich

You know the old saying that you should “keep it simple”?
Well, Cracker Barrel took that to heart with this one.
Their saucy chicken sandwich has a bun, pickles, mayo, a fried chicken breast, and a sauce of your choice.
So you don’t have to get the Nashville hot sauce on it…but you probably should.
And if it’s cold outside (it is) and you’re looking for something a little more on the warm and comforting side (you are), then try their next item:

Chicken n’ Dumplin Soup

This one’s pretty self-explanatory – dumplings, chicken, celery, onions, carrots, broth.
Simple, straightforward, delicious.
And nostalgic.
Pretty much checks all the Cracker Barrel boxes, doesn’t it?

And there’s more

Cracker Barrel is also doing a few new promotions to entice guests back:
– They’re rolling out “Early Dinner Deals” where you can get a smaller portion than their usual dinner sizes for as little as $8.99 Monday-Friday from 4-6pm;
– Also the “Sunrise Pancake Special” for the breakfast-all-day crowd, starting as low as $7.99
– And finally, they’re continuing their sparkling sugar plum mimosa and their sugar plum tea as options. I guess those sold well. (Maybe it’s the weirdness factor?)

Cracker Barrel is just getting started

I expect to see lots of changes in the year ahead as Cracker Barrel’s management focuses on the turnaround.
For now, the big question is: Will it work?
Time will tell.
But really, the proof will be in how customers react and whether store traffic increases again.
Which begs the question:
