Ingredients for Best Almond Flour Buns
Almond Flour – Almond flour is an excellent option for gluten-free baking! It yields soft, slightly sweet dinner rolls.
Gluten-Free Flour Blend – Almond flour needs a secondary flour to help bind all the ingredients together. We used a gluten-free flour blend to maintain the gluten-free aspect of this recipe, but you can use whatever you have on hand.
Baking Soda – To help these rolls rise in the oven, we use baking soda instead of yeast. Yeast isn’t as effective with almond flour, so either baking soda or powder is needed.
Salt – Just a pinch to round out the flavors!
Water – Drizzle the water in slowly, you may not need it all to combine the ingredients.
Egg Replacer – Egg replacer powder works to bind the dough and provide an even bake. If you have no aversion to eggs, feel free to use 1 egg instead of egg replacer.
Sour cream or yogurt – Pick your favorite sour cream or unflavored yogurt brand. Either ingredient will add moisture and subtle tang to the rolls.
Apple Cider Vinegar – Apple cider vinegar is the agent needed to activate the baking soda in the dough, allowing the rolls to rise in the oven.
Butter – Butter is brushed on top of the rolls to add a delicious flavor, as well as to help the toppings stick after baking.
Sesame seeds for topping (optional) – Sesame seeds are totally optional, but excellent if you use the rolls for sandwiches or burgers. Everything Bagel Seasoning is also a great choice to add a savory crunch!
Variations
Herb: Mix in a tablespoon of either dill, oregano, or rosemary into the dough to create deliciously herby rolls!
Sweet: Add in a few teaspoons of sweetener, such as maple syrup or brown sugar, to the dough, then sprinkle brown sugar on top before baking. Once done, slather with butter or dip into icing for a delectable sweet treat!
