Today, in an effort to cut back on waste, lots of coffee chains out there (whether mom and pop shops or massive chains) will allow you to bring your own personal reusable cup to get your drink order filled. And in some cases it’ll even get you a discount.
Starbucks made this popular with their annual Starbucks Red Cup Day, but this movement isn’t something exclusive to Starbucks. So if Dunkin’ is your go-to coffee spot, can you bring your own reusable cup with you?
The short answer is, ultimately, most likely – but whether Dunkin’ accepts your cup and how that works will largely depend on your specific store location.

How to use your own cup at Dunkin’
The slightly confusing part of all of this is that Dunkin’ doesn’t seem to have a company-wide policy regarding reusable cups. A few years ago, Dunkin’ started a reusable mug program across US stores, but it was suspended during the coronavirus pandemic.
Because Dunkin’ Donuts is a franchise, it’s ultimately up to each store location to operate how they see fit. That said, most locations will most likely fill your order in your personal cup, as long as you bring one with you that’s clean and reusable.
At most Dunkin’ locations, if you ask your cashier to fill your order in your reusable cup, they’ll take the cup from you and be able to accommodate your request. The important thing is that you have an appropriate cup or mug size for the Dunkin’ size that you’re ordering – it’s a good idea to know exactly what your cup capacity is to help out the barista and allow for a smooth process.
If your location is one that allows reusable cups, there may be a limit to the specific drink orders they can fill; again, it’ll depend on the store. But most of the time, Dunkin’ will be able to fill a personal cup with most standard drink items on the menu.
Do you get a discount if you bring your own reusable cup?
Dunkin’ has offered promotions and incentives in the past for customers who bring their own clean reusable mugs, in the form of several different discounts. At one point customers could receive $0.10 off their order (similar to Starbucks reusable cup discount), and there have also been refill-related discounts, such as $0.99 refills or being charged for the next smallest size when you refill a reusable cup.
However, there is currently no known discount available for customers who bring a reusable cup with them. But you can always check ahead with your local Dunkin’ store in case that location happens to offer something.
It’s possible to get your drink order (or a coffee refill) filled in your own personal cup, as long as it’s clean and reusable – however this will largely depend on your specific Dunkin’ location. Since Dunkin’ is a franchise, some stores will accommodate this request and others will not.
While Dunkin’ has offered discounts in the past for bringing your own reusable cup, at this time there is no known incentive, promotion, or discount available for customers who bring their own cups. That said, it’s always worth checking with your local Dunkin’ to see if they have any specific promotions.
Any drink on the Starbucks menu is eligible for a personal cup order, whether it’s hot, iced, or blended. And any size can be fulfilled as well, as long as it fits in the cup you brought with you. You can place your order any way you’d like: in person at a participating location, on the Starbucks mobile app, or through a delivery service like Uber Eats or DoorDash. If you bring your own clean, reusable cup for your order, you’ll receive $0.10 off your order total and 25 bonus points if you’re a Starbucks Rewards Member.
