(Mostly for the better. At least I think so!)
But of course – for any restaurant that’s been around as long as Outback has…

Not everything can be an addition.
Sometimes even longtime fan favorites have to go away.
It’s disappointing, but it’s the way of the world.
Even at Outback.
Here are seven dishes I’m missing which we’ll probably never see again:

#1: Drover’s Platter

This was a great combination of grilled ribs and chicken along with Aussie chips (fries) and cinnamon apples.
And really there’s no good analogue to it today – you can get ribs OR chicken, but not both.
(If you’re picking, get the ribs – they’re really good. But they were better with chicken!)

#2: Veggie Pasta Pemberton

Despite Outback’s steakhouse as, well, you know, a steakhouse – so a place with lots of meat to be eaten…
Over the years, it has had some pretty tasty vegetarian options as well.
One of my favorites was the Veggie Pasta Pemberton, which had chargrilled veggies, portabello mushrooms, and a beautiful garlic and herb semolina sauce atop a bed of pasta.
(You could, of course, add a grilled chicken breast too.)
Sadly all gone, and there’s really not a good vegetarian replacement (salads don’t count).

#3: Jackeroo chops

The Jackeroo chops were a pair of 8-oz pork chops served with cinnamon apples and a potato (mashed, baked, or fries).
Today we have something fairly similar – two pork chops of the same size and cut, but now they have a caramel and creole mustard glaze, and cinnamon apples aren’t an option anymore.
The flavors are a little different and the sides aren’t quite as good, but it’s not a terrible consolation prize all in all!

#4: Botany Bay Fish O’ The Day

The fresh catch option is something you expect at any higher-end steakhouse, and it was one of the key things distinguishing Outback from a lot of the mediocre chains of the 90s and 2000s.

#5: Steak flights

Steak flights were a brief option on the Outback menu in 2013 – enabling people to try different steaks (two or three, 3-oz each) along with a host of sauces and two sides.
It was a great idea, but maybe a little before its time – by most accounts, it was extremely unpopular and didn’t last for more than a few weeks.
Which is a shame – because I’d love to try different cuts of steak and see which I liked best.
Bring them back!

#6: Sydney’s Sinful Sundae

If you’re like me, you’ve had plenty of desserts from chain restaurants that were just “ok.”
Not Sydney’s Sinful Sundae.
Yes, it had all your traditional sundae fixings – ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream – but they rolled the ice cream in toasted coconut, which gave it this amazing crunchy texture.
I miss it every time I look at an Outback menu.

#7: Cinnamon Oblivion

Another great dessert – this had vanilla ice cream as a base, with tons of cinnamon apples and pecans, and with a caramel sauce drizzled over it.
If you’re in to cinnamon – and who isn’t, really – then it was just about the best dessert out there.
Sadly all gone.

Summary

So there you have it:
Seven dishes that are gone, likely forever.
(Outback does occasionally bring back something old, but usually not for all that long.)
With that in mind, here’s my big question:
