Baking soda exfoliates and helps to balance the ph of the skin, sea salts are full of minerals, and essential oils have a relaxing effect and help to relive tension. The combination of these ingredients work together to create a relaxing experience and offer pain relief for tired and sore feet. I’ve added coconut milk powder to this foot bath soak to add moisturizing properties that sooth dry skin. Other natural ingredients like flower buds, apple cider vinegar, dried flowers and bentonite clay are other great additions to change up this foot soak recipe.
DIY Foot Soak Recipe
For this recipe you will need one cup epsom salt, 1/2 cup of sea salt, 1/2 cup coconut milk powder, 1 tablespoon baking soda, and essential oils. You will also need a few gallons of hot water and a foot basin or a large bowl.
Step-by-step Instructions:
- Mix the epsom salt, sea salt, coconut milk powder, baking soda and essential oils together in a mixing bowl.
- Fill a foot mason with hot or warm water (whichever you prefer) and pour the foot soak into the bath.
- Next, carefully place your feet into the basin. Soak your feet for 10-15 minutes or until the water cools.

Vinegar Foot Soak
Mix 4 parts warm water with one part vinegar. Pour the mixture into a basin. Add a cup of epsom salt and a few drops of essential oil to the soak.
Essential Oil Free Foot Soak Recipe
If you prefer not to use essential oils, you can use flower buds instead to add a lovely fragrance to this foot soak. Combine one cup of epsom salt, 1/2 cup of dead sea salt, 1 tablespoon of baking soda, and 1/4 cup of dried lavender buds, rose buds, or other dried flower petals. I suggest pouring the mixture into a muslin bag, and adding the bag to the bath basin. The salts will dissolve into the water, and the flower buds will be contained in the muslin bag for easy cleanup.
Tips & Suggestions:
- Prior to soaking your feet you may want to rinse your feet and use a foot scrub to remove dead skin cells.
- After soaking your feet, use a pumice stone to scrub any rough spots on the bottom of the feet.
- If you have dry feet or cracked skin, apply a moisture to your feet after drying them off. I suggest using this diy body butter, which contains skin nourishing ingredients like coconut oil, cocoa butter, olive oil and shea butter.
- If you suffer with foot odor, you can add a cup of apple cider vinegar to the mix. Apple cider vinegar is very potent and may help with foot fungal infections.
- For a mess free cleanup, pour the epsom salt foot soak into a muslin bag and tie the bag. Then, add the bag to the foot basin and allow the salts and oils to dissolve into the water. The dried flowers will then stay in the bag, and make for an easy cleanup!
Best Essential Oils for Epsom Salt Soak
- Lavender Oil: If you’re looking for relaxing experience I suggest using lavender essential oil in this foot soak. Lavender is one of the most widely used essential oils and has calming properties that are perfect to help the mind and body relax after a long day.
- Tea Tree Oil: If you have inflamed, smelly or itchy skin, tea tree oil is your firmed. It contains natural anti fungal properties that combat the bacteria that cause athletes foot.
- Peppermint Oil: If you’re looking to relieve aches, then peppermint is a great choice. It has a cooling effect on the skin and leaves your skin feeling refreshed. Eucalyptus is another cooling oil and pairs well with peppermint. I suggest added a few drops of peppermint and eucalyptus to the bath soak for a double cooling experience.
