Intro

If you’ve been to 7-Eleven, you know that it’s a great pit stop for gas, a solid bathroom, and some hot roller food.
(And a slurpee.)
But gas stations everywhere are upping their game, and 7-Eleven is being challenged like never before.
Is 7-Eleven still king of the convenience store?
Or have they been dethroned?
Here are seven competitors coming for 7-Eleven, starting with one of my personal favorites…

Buc-ee’s

Where you’ll find them: Buc-ee’s is mostly in Texas, but recently they’ve expanded to several additional states (with more on the way). If you’re on a major highway anywhere in the American South, chances are good you’ll eventually run into a Buc-ee’s.
Why they’re better: Beaver Nuggets, anyone? Beaver chips? Homemade BBQ (their chopped brisket sandwich is amazing), clean bathrooms, truly Buc-ee’s has got the works.

Wawa

Where you’ll find them: Roughly 1,100 locations, mostly in the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-New York corridor, but with a bunch popping up in Virginia and elsewhere.
Why they’re better: Wawa’s hot food game is super strong – especially their hoagies and Sizzlis (their branded breakfast sandwiches).

Stewart’s Shops

Where you’ll find them: Mostly Upstate New York and Vermont – a truly Northeastern chain!
Why they’re better: Their ice cream is fantastic, the rest of their food is pretty good, and the stores are always clean and well-kept.

Sheetz

Where you’ll find them: Sheetz has over 700 locations, centering on Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina.
Why they’re better: Sheetz has great prepared food (especially their fries and hot dogz), and I love their donuts too.

Love’s

Where you’ll find them: Love’s is nationwide and in almost every state (42 of them, to be exact), so you’ve probably driven past them
Why they’re better: Clean bathrooms, friendly staff, pretty good food!

Casey’s

Where you’ll find them: Throughout the Midwest, from Minnesota down to Oklahoma and Nebraska to Ohio, along with a few locations in Eastern Tennessee.
Why they’re better: Great pizza, breadsticks, wings, and subs. Honestly, their hot food is incredible.

Weigel’s

Where you’ll find them: Weigel’s has a little under 100 locations, mostly in Eastern Tennessee.
Why they’re better: Weigel’s has fantastic (and well-priced) hot food – I highly recommend their fried chicken and their doughnuts.
