Lots of people disagree

There are a number of beers whose fans will insist that they deserve a place in your cooler over Corona.
Are they right? Well, that’ll be up to you to decide.
But they’re certainly loud – and they make a good case.
Starting with…
Shutterstock
Kona Big Wave Golden Ale

Why it’s a great beach beer: Kona is juicy and fruity (because it’s brewed with Citra and Galaxy hops), and it goes great with seafood or really anything salty. (Like the beach.) Truly, it lives up to its tagline, “Liquid Aloha.”
ABV: 4.4%
Price point: A 6-pack is usually $10.99-$11.99, if you’re paying more for that at the store try a Total Wine or Target.

Cerveza Pacifico Clara

Why it’s a great beach beer: Pacifico delivers a beautiful crisp flavor that’s super refreshing on a hot beach day. This one belongs in everyone’s cooler!
ABV: 4.4%
Price point: You can get a 6-pack (bottles) for $11.99 or a 12-pack (cans) for $16.99.

Blue Moon

Why it’s a great beach beer: Ok, Blue Moon may be a dreaded “macro beer” that lots of people turn their noses up, but I’ve never understood the hate. It’s delicious, it’s drinkable, great citrus notes, and because it’s such a light Belgian style wheat ale, it’s the perfect beach drink.
ABV: 5.4%
Price point: You can get a 6-pack (bottles) for $11.49 or a 12-pack (cans) for $16.99.

Brooklyn Summer Ale

Why it’s a great beach beer: Brooklyn’s summer ale is an American Pale Ale. Like Blue Moon, you get that touch of citrus.
ABV: 6.7%, so make sure you have some water with you too!
Price point: You can get a 6-pack (bottles) for $11.49 or a 12-pack (cans) for $16.99.

Keweenaw Wequetong Cherry Wheat

Why it’s a great beach beer: Keweenaw isn’t well known, but its cherry wheat absolutely should be. Because of the cherries, the beer looks a little pink (which is cool), and more importantly – you get a tart and refreshing beer that provides the perfect counterpoint to a relaxing beach day.
ABV: 4.8%
Price point: The only make this beer in the summer, so right now it’s a little hard to find – but with a little searching around, you can snag a 6-pack (cans) for $9.99.

Medalla Light

Why it’s a great beach beer: Medalla Light is the best-selling beer in Puerto Rico, which probably tells you everything you need to know? Light, crisp, refreshing. Great while you’re relaxing at the beach.
ABV: 4.2%
Price point: You can get a 6-pack (bottles) for $10.99 or a 12-pack (cans – 10 oz) for just $9.99.

Modelo Especial

Why it’s a great beach beer: Modelo’s been a longtime favorite in the American Southwest, and for good reason. It’s so refreshing on a hot day.
ABV: 4.4%
Price point: You can get a 6-pack (cans) for $10.99 or a 12-pack (bottles) for $16.99.

Corona Extra

Ok, I couldn’t leave without giving Corona its due.
After all – there’s a reason it’s one of the most popular beers in America!
Why it’s a great beach beer: Corona Extra with lime is genuinely one of life’s greatest pleasures – especially when it’s hot out.
ABV: 4.6%
Price point: You can get a 6-pack (bottles) for $10-$12 and a 12-pack (bottles) for $15.99.

Summary

So there you have it – seven beers whose fans would argue they’re far better than Corona.
And you can see why – the price points are pretty equivalent (in some cases even a little cheaper), the flavors and quality are great, and any one of these would be great on the beach.
But of course, that brings us back to the key question:
