In the world of health and wellness, there’s a lot of buzz about apple cider vinegar (ACV).
Among the many brands out there, today I’ll be focusing on Mother Earth’s Apple Cider Vinegar.
Mother Earth apple cider vinegar is:
- Organic
- Non-GMO
- Gluten-free
- Unfiltered (contains the “mother”)
- Unpasteurized
- 5% acetic acid
- No preservatives
- Great price
The benefits of apple cider vinegar
Before we get into the juicy details of Mother Earth’s ACV, here’s a quick look at some of the benefits of apple cider vinegar…
Digestive aid: Some people swear by apple cider vinegar for its digestive benefits. It may help with bloating, indigestion, and even heartburn because it increases the production of stomach acid.
Weight management: Some studies suggest that apple cider vinegar might assist in weight loss by helping you feel full and satisfied. It’s not a magic potion, but it can be a helpful addition to a healthy diet and exercise routine.
Blood sugar control: There’s evidence to suggest that apple cider vinegar may improve insulin sensitivity, which could be beneficial for people with diabetes or those looking to manage their blood sugar levels.
Skin and hair care: Apple cider vinegar can be diluted with water and used as a toner for clearer skin and as a hair rinse for added shine.
What’s the best apple cider vinegar?
Now, you might be wondering how I reviewed Mother Earth Apple Cider Vinegar and what makes a good apple cider vinegar brand.
Well, here’s what to look for in a quality apple cider vinegar:
- Organic: Apples are one of those fruits that are heavily sprayed with pesticides. That’s why I prefer organic apple cider vinegar that’s made from 100% organically grown apples and is free from pesticides or chemicals. Look for certifications such as USDA Organic or Non-GMO Project Verified to ensure the product meets certain quality standards.
- Raw/unpasteurized: Look for apple cider vinegar that is labeled as “raw” and “unpasteurized.” Pasteurization is a process that uses heat which destroys many of the beneficial enzymes and probiotics in apple cider vinegar – in other words, all the good stuff you want to help support healthy digestion.
- Unfiltered: This type retains the beneficial enzymes, probiotics, and sediment called the “mother” which makes sure the natural benefits of apple cider vinegar are included and not filtered out or refined, like in distilled vinegar.
- No additives or preservatives: Some companies include additives, preservatives, artificial flavors, or other kinds of vinegar. The only ingredients should be apple cider vinegar and water, since it’s typically diluted to an acidity level of 5-6% acidity/acetic acid content, which is the ideal range for ACV.
- Taste: Of course, taste is subjective, but overall, I look for a well-balanced apple cider vinegar with a nice balance of tartness and sweetness.
While these are the most important criteria, I also consider things like price, brand reputation, and packaging (glass is generally better than plastic).
So, without further ado, let’s see how Mother Earth Apple Cider Vinegar did!
Reviewing Mother Earth Apple Cider Vinegar
Quality
Mother Earth Organic Apple Cider Vinegar checks all of the boxes. It’s made from 100% organic certified apples, is non-GMO and naturally gluten-free. It’s raw, unfiltered, unpasteurized (check, check, and check!) and free of preservatives. The ingredients are simply organic apple cider vinegar and purified water, diluted to 5% acidity.
Looking at the bottom of the bottle, it’s cloudy and you can see the mother of vinegar swirling around, which contains all of those beneficial enzymes and probiotics. Make sure to shake the bottle before using it.
Taste
Mother Earth Apple Cider Vinegar has that signature tart flavor you’d expect from quality apple cider vinegar. There’s no added flavors, so it’s good for cooking or mixing into apple cider vinegar drinks. Keep in mind it’s quite strong and acidic, so you’ll definitely want to dilute it.
Compared to other brands I’ve tried, it’s pretty tasty, especially when mixed into earthy salad dressings, marinades, or BBQ sauces.
Price
What sets this product apart from the rest is the quality for the price. What initially prompted me to purchase it was because it comes in a huge container (almost 2 liters!) for less than $9 at Costco. For an organic, raw apple cider vinegar, that’s a great deal.
You can find Mother Earth Apple Cider Vinegar in Costco stores or online through Amazon.
Packaging and storage
The only thing I don’t love about this product is that it comes in a plastic container. However, the company specifies they use HDPE #2 food grade plastic, which is safe for food products and doesn’t leach any material into the vinegar.
I keep mine in the refrigerator, but it’s naturally acidic and does not need to be refrigerated. A dark, cool place is all you need, and it will last you a few years or more!
The verdict
Mother Earth stands as a reputable and quality, natural choice. It’s unfiltered, unpasteurized, and organic, with all the nutrients intact. Plus, this is a great value option if you prefer buying your ACV in bulk. Would I purchase it again? Definitely!
So, whether you’re looking to improve digestion, manage your weight, or whip up something delicious, Mother Earth Apple Cider Vinegar is definitely worth a try!
