Intro

There’s been a lot of debate…
Is it the day before Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve, St. Patrick’s Day or some other day?
There are differing rankings out there with weird results (one has Mardi Gras at the top … probably true in New Orleans, but not countrywide!).
Here are the top 10 drinking days in the U.S. based on our research…

#10 New Year’s Day

Not New Year’s Eve, mind you … that’s further down this list.
A lot of people end right at midnight, but many keep the night going into New Year’s Day. Or have some beers while watching college football.

#9 Christmas

While not thought of as a decadent drinking day, having a couple glasses of wine with Christmas dinner gets this family holiday into ninth place!

#8 Labor Day

Maybe because it’s the last hurrah as we cling to Summer, Labor Day makes the list while Memorial Day misses out (we have three more months of this!).
Also, parents bracing themselves for a school year full of shuttling the kids!

#7 Thanksgiving Eve

Some people call this Blackout Wednesday or Drinksgiving.
It’s the day people go back to their home towns, see old friends, and know that they have no work the next day.
This one probably ranks higher for the younger set.
We older folks are prepping for family coming in and going to bed early to get the turkey started early in the morning…

#6 Halloween

Kids and candy is the headliner for this holiday.
But for people of drinking age, dressing up and going to parties is the thing.
That gets Halloween just outside the top 5…

#5 Fourth of July

Fireworks, barbecue, and maybe a domestic beer or two mark this salute to our country!

#4 Cinco de Mayo

Tequila, Coronas, and margaritas get a boost on this Mexican holiday that’s actually more popular in the US than Mexico itself!

#3 St. Patrick’s Day

In theory a religious holiday, St. Patrick’s Day is probably the most brazen unofficial “drinking holiday” in the U.S.
That’s good for third place on our list…and a whole lot of people scratching their heads on how it’s not #1…

#2 Super Bowl Sunday

This is how powerful our love of NFL football is…it’s the only day on this list that’s not really any sort of holiday.
It’s just a football game. Well, THE football game.
Another occasion where a few beers pair nicely with wings and seven-layer dip.

#1 New Year’s Eve

Did you guess New Year’s Eve?
It’s the day where both professionals and amateurs go out on the town to toast the passing of another year.
And if not out on the town, people are in their homes popping some champagne corks at midnight (or earlier).
No matter which day is your favorite to kick back with friends and family, we’re wishing you a safe and happy time!
