Intro

If you’re an “old school” KFC fan, you remember potato wedges.
They were pretty much everyone’s favorite side.
(I mean, aside from maybe the mashed potatoes? But only sometimes?)
And they disappeared five years ago. (Along with all kinds of other fantastic KFC foods over the years.)
But guess what?

They’re back

KFC has decided to roll them back out for a limited release.
I think it’s pretty much universally agreed that they’re superior to the newer fries, which knocked them off-menu back in 2020.
Search anywhere online, and you’ll find tons of fans who have petitioned, posted, agitated, or just plain complained in the hopes that KFC would one day bring them back.
And now they have – starting yesterday!
Unfortunately, there are two catches:

The catches

#1: They’re only available for two weeks, starting March 10th (yesterday).
#2: They’re only available in five locations nationwide.

Why are they doing it this way?

No one really knows exactly why KFC is only rolling out potato wedges in just five locations.
But it does make sense that they hard to start somewhere…and probably wanted to start small just to make sure they got all the kinks ironed out.
(And also to see whether demand for potato wedges would drive greater foot traffic.)
So here are the five locations, all in the Tampa area:

The 5 locations serving potato wedges (for now)

– 3105 Havendale Boulevard, Auburndale, FL 33823
– 770 34th Street, North, St. Petersburg, FL 33713
– 1492 North Broadway avenue, Bartow, FL 33830
– 4402 West Gandy Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33611
– 1605 West Kennedy Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33606

Why Tampa?

Again, no one knows for sure.
My theory is that they wanted somewhere that wasn’t already inundated with tourist traffic (so not, say, Orlando or Miami).
We’re also in early Spring, which is mud season for lots of the northern US, so deliveries probably aren’t as guaranteed to get through to somewhere like Youngstown and Scranton.
But why Tampa area and not Tallahassee? Or somewhere else in the South?
No idea.
If you have any theories, I’d love to hear them! Just leave a comment with why you think they picked Tampa.

Get there while you can

There’s some speculation that a successful rollout in Tampa will yield a bigger (possibly nationwide) rollout…so if you live nearby (or will be visiting), get to one of those locations!
And order, like, I don’t know, ten of them?
If you’re one of the lucky few with access, let us know how they taste! Are they as good as we all remember them to be?
