Dessert just got even sweeter with this amazing Vanilla Strawberry Swirl Ice Cream, made from ingredients that are readily available. Hey, you might even have these ingredients in your pantry or fridge right now! Simply allow 6 hours of freezing time and you have the most fantastic ice cream ever!
How Do You Make Ice Cream?
Homemade ice cream has been a consistent trend on social media. Many recipes call for fancy rotating appliances that make ice cream right in front of our eyes. While that is incredible to watch, ice cream makers can be expensive and bulky to store. There must be another way!
Enter the Vanilla Strawberry Swirl Ice Cream method! By using very creamy ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk and heavy whipping cream, you get the high fat content that you want out of ice cream without any of the churning. The secret is to whip the cream before folding the ingredients together and freezing.
All ice cream has air whipped into it. For example, Italian gelato is known for being a creamier alternative to ice cream, and that is due to less air being whipped into the ice cream base. Traditional scoopable ice cream has more air whipped in, therefore a thicker, airier texture.
Once your cream is whipped and your ingredients are mixed, all you need to do is allow the ice cream to freeze and that’s it. Once you master this recipe, there are limitless flavor combinations to create in your next ice cream endeavors!
Can I Use this Method in Other Ways?
This recipe just happens to be a starting point. There are endless flavor combinations to experiment with using this ice cream method. Using a base of sweetened condensed milk and whipped cream, you could add additional elements such as chocolate, caramel, candies, other fruits, marshmallows, cookies, and more!
Even if you have a favorite flavor already, such as mint chip, simply add some peppermint extract and chocolate chunks for a homemade variety! Really, anything is possible with this base recipe.

- 1 cup strawberry preserves, divided
- 1 14-oz. can sweetened condensed milk
- 2 cups cold heavy whipping cream
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
How to Make Vanilla Strawberry Swirl Ice Cream
- Upon opening your strawberry preserves, mix the contents of the jar well to break up the fruit and jam.

- In a separate large bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream and vanilla using a hand mixer until you have soft peaks.
- Add one large spoonful of whipped cream into the strawberry mixture and incorporate well. This will allow the cream to fold easier into the condensed milk.
- Fold the rest of the whipped cream and condensed milk together until well mixed but still airy using a rubber spatula.
- Pour ⅓ of the ice cream mixture into a glass dish. Swirl with 2 tablespoons of the remaining preserves. Repeat again by topping with more ice cream mix, then 2 tablespoons of preserves.
- Finally, top with your final layer of ice cream. Swirl the remaining preserves over the top. Using a toothpick, swirl the fruit to create a decorative top.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours until firm.
Recipe Notes/Tips/Troubleshooting:
Be sure that your heavy cream is VERY cold, around 40 degrees F. Cold cream whips much better and easier than cream that has been out of the fridge. Keep the cream cold until the last second before using.
Use more preserves in this recipe, depending on how sweet you like your ice cream. The sweetened condensed milk also adds a layer of sweetness, negating the need for sugar in the recipe.
Storage:
Keep frozen, this ice cream has a very creamy and light texture. It does not need to be out for long to be scoopable.
