For a wonderful kick of spice, make your own quick-brewed ginger tea, and cool it to create a base of deliciousness!
If there’s anything that ginger loves, it’s orange. And orange turns around and loves ginger right back! The sweetness of the orange plays off the earthy spice of the ginger to create a literal lip-smacking drink! And I like to round out the flavors with a kiss of bright apple cider vinegar to make everything in the drink come around to something that’s so delicious that it’s nearly, but not quite, a “guilty pleasure.”
Ingredients and substitutions
To make this, you’ll need:
- 1 cup water
- 3 large slices ginger, peeled
- Ice
- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice (blood orange is particularly nice)
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
Diets and substitutions
As written, this drink is paleo, Whole30, vegan, and dairy free. Oranges aren’t Keto, so you can’t really make this Keto-friendly without completely reworking the recipe. (That said, you could swap in another citrus for the orange juice – it won’t be the same, but several citrus flavors ARE Keto.)

Can I make this drink ahead of time?
Absolutely! Make the ginger water and let it cool to room temperature, and then add in the orange juice, and apple cider vinegar and store in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Just pour it over ice when ready to serve!
Did you know that you can store ginger in the freezer? You can! Simply store it in a resealable bag after washing it and drying it well. That way it’s ready to grate whenever you want it. (The peel gets stuck in the grater.) And if you decide to slice it into coins, just let it come thaw for about 5-10 minutes, and then peel it, and slice it for ready-made convenience!
