Boost your immune system with this turmeric shot recipe, one of my favorite wellness shots made with turmeric, pineapple, and black pepper.
There is no question that turmeric is a fantastic herb with anti-inflammatory properties. Its health benefits are well-known in ayurvedic medicine and have also been heavily studied in western medicine.
The problem many comfort is adding turmeric to their diet. This wonderful herb may be healthy, but it’s pretty overpowering and not so tasty. However, if you love curry (like my chicken curry recipe), that’s one way to get turmeric into your diet. Another way to add turmeric to your diet is by drinking golden milk or taking a turmeric shot. You can find pre-made turmeric shots in grocery stores, but they come at a hefty price! So instead, make your own in only a few minutes with a blender!
Turmeric Shot Recipe
Perfect for flu season, joint support, or when you need an immune booster. This wellness shot recipe is my go-to for supporting my body all year long.
Ingredients:
- 2-inch piece of fresh turmeric root or one tablespoon of ground turmeric
- 2 cups chopped pineapples or two oranges (8 ounces of pineapple juice or orange juice)
- ¼ teaspoon organic black pepper (this is an essential active ingredient)
- optional: Fresh lemons, ginger root, herbs, apple cider vinegar, organic coconut water
Instructions:
Before you begin, be aware that turmeric stains the skin a light yellow color. You can avoid this by rubbing your hands with avocado oil or coconut oil before squeezing the juice from the nut milk bag.
Prep the turmeric by peeling and slicing it into small pieces. Core and chop the pineapple or peel the oranges if using oranges.
Blender Method
Place the turmeric, cut-up pineapple (or peeled fresh oranges), and 1/2 cup of coconut water (or filtered water) into a high-speed blender. Blend on high speed until the turmeric mixture is thoroughly blended, about 1 minute. If you use turmeric powder, follow the directions as written but with one tablespoon of powdered turmeric instead of the fresh root.
Next, pour the turmeric shot mixture through a nut milk bag or fine sieve, removing all the pulp. Add a pinch of black pepper to the juice and mix well. Finally, pour the turmeric shots into 1-ounce glass bottles and store them in the refrigerator.
Juicer Method
Place the prepared turmeric and fruit in a juicer. Once the product has gone through the juicer, add a pinch of black pepper to the cold-pressed juice and mix well. You may add a 1/2 cup of coconut water or filtered plain water to dilute the turmeric shot recipe. This is optional but highly recommended since turmeric is a very strong-tasting herb.
Variations and Additions
You may make variations to this turmeric shot by adding other anti-inflammatory ingredients like fresh ginger to make ginger turmeric shots. You may also add herbs or apple cider vinegar, which are a great addition to the immune-boosting properties of these shots. If you find the turmeric juice shot too strong, you can dilute it more with water or add a sweetener like raw honey or maple syrup.
Storing and Shelf Life
Refrigerator: Store each turmeric shot in the fridge for up to 5 days. If you would like to extend the shelf life to a week, add a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice to the tops of each bottle to help preserve the juice.
Freezer: Freeze the turmeric shots in 1-ounce plastic containers (glass will shatter) or pour them into ice cube trays. Remove the frozen shots the night before you take them, and let them defrost in the fridge overnight.
