Vita Coco is a popular coconut water available at most grocery stores and markets. But is it a tasty coconut water? Is it worth the price tag compared to other brands? In this review, I’ll discuss the taste, quality, nutrient profile, and cost of Vita Coco to help you decide if it’s a good brand for you.
What Is Coconut Water?
Coconut water is the delicious nectar that you’ll find inside of fresh coconuts. This liquid is low in fat and is a natural source of electrolytes like sodium, calcium, magnesium, and potassium. It’s a refreshing drink that’s great for those who are active or want to drink a naturally sweetened beverage that’s lower in sugar than sports drinks.
Fresh Coconut Water vs Bottled
There is no question that fresh coconut water is tastier than any bottle or can of coconut water you’ll find in the stores. There’s nothing like it, and only a few coconut water brands come close to tasting as delicious as fresh coconut water.
Vita Coco Coconut Water Review
My honest thoughts on this coconut water is that it’s actually a pretty decently tasting coconut water. I’ve tried dozens of brands, and many of them have such an off-taste. That’s why Vita Coco made my list of the Best Coconut Waters to Buy, and it’s a brand I often buy to use in my smoothies or when I’m traveling.
Things I love about Vita Coco Coconut Water:
- Great tasting: It has a lightly sweet coconut taste.
- My kids like it: I know this might not mean anything to some, but if you have kids, you know it’s a win when you find a healthy alternative that they like.
- It’s affordable: This coconut water is one of the best-priced coconut waters at the grocery store. If you or your family enjoy drinking a lot of coconut water, this is an affordable option for sure.
- It’s everywhere!: I can find this brand at any store, market, and online. It’s even available in bulk at Costco.
The Cons:
- It’s pasteurized: I know that pasteurization is important for health and safety. But it sadly changes the flavor of coconut water. If you like fresh coconut water, stick to the refrigerated brands that aren’t pasteurized.
- Added Sugar: There’s added sugar in Vita Coco, which gives is a sweeter taste than other brands. It also adds sugars and carbs to the drink. While the percentage of added sugar is only 2%, it’s still there and may turn some off from buying it.
