This luxurious coffee body butter moisturizes and tones skin! Use it daily on problem areas to reduce the appearance of cellulite and uneven skin.

Homemade whipped body butter is simple to make and can often be made with butters and oils you have in your kitchen. Essential oils can be added or you can infuse herbs and spices into your oils.
With this recipe I used coffee, which is amazing for your skin and can help to tone and tighten problem areas.

Coffee infused body butter ingredients
Just four ingredients here, so you’ll want to make sure they’re great – this is stuff you’re putting all over your body, after all!
- 1/4 Cup Organic Coffee Beans
- 1/2 Cup Virgin Coconut Oil (I recommend either making your own coconut oil at home – which is super easy to do! – or buying one of the handful of top coconut oil brands.)
- 1/2 Cup Cocoa Butter
- 1/2 Cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
And once you have your ingredients, it’s time to get started!
How to make coffee infused body butter
Infused oils are incredible and can be used in both skincare and baking. I’ve made calendula infused coconut oil as well as vanilla coconut oil. Infusing coffee into coconut oil is simple and can be done in under a half hour.

To start you’ll melt 1/2 cup of virgin coconut oil in a saucepan on low heat. Add 1/4 cup of whole organic coffee beans. Keep the oil on low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Use a fine mesh strainer to strain the coconut oil from the coffee beans.

Next, melt the cocoa butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add olive oil and coffee infused coconut oil.

Refrigerate the oils for 25-30 minutes, or until the oils just begin to solidify.

Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to whip the oils into butter. This will take 10-15 minutes to achieve a soft and fluffy texture.

Scoop the coffee body butter into a storage container and store in a cool dry place. Use daily on dry or problem areas.

I made the recipe last night, followed all instructions. I checked on it just now to see if there has been any stuff at the bottom that settled and all the olive oil is now at the bottom in liquid form. How do I stop this from happening with the next batch?
You can re-whip the body butter to incorporate the olive oil. This has happened to me in the past when I stored my body butter at a warm temp.
I haven’t made this yet but am seriously thinking I should! I’m wondering if you’ve done herbal infusions and possibly used that instead of the olive oil in the mixture. I have an anti-aging slow infusion with avocado oil that’s ready and thinking I may try it in conjunction with this recipe because of the firming aspect. Might be a good mix but might be horrible lol not sure!
Do you know how many batches this will make? Like if I put the body butter in 4 oz jars ?
I got 5 completely full 4oz jars out of it.
Hi! Are cocoa butter and cacao butter wafers interchangeable in your whipped body butter recipes?
Thanks!
Christina
hi there, would i be able to use certified organic instant coffee rather than beans? or would that not work
Hello,
What are you thoughts, or have you ever used MCT Oil?
I’ve got a bar of cocoa butter, shea butter and coconut oil that I’d like to whip up a batch with.
Thanks Tiffany. I’ll have a look later this week and give it a go. Meg 🙂
Hello! Thank you for this wonderful recipe! I just put my batch in the fridge to solidify a bit, but now I’m here with the beans and I’m wondering if there’s anything you can suggest to make with the beans post infusing?
Happy Holidays!
Good questions! You could rinse and dry them and then use them to make a coffee scrub!
Hi Tiffany, I’m planning on making this for Christmas pressies and was wondering where can
I get cocoa butter from? Is it a cooking one or just a moisturiser off the shelf? Thanks for your help. Thanks a lot, Meg 🙂
Hey Meg, I really like the cocoa butter wafers from Mountain Rose Herbs. You may be able to find some locally at a health food store. You can buy raw or refined cocoa butter for this recipe. I think refined is a little better since it has less of a smell but both will work. Hope this helps!
Thanks Tiffany. I’ll have a look later this week and give it a go. Meg 🙂
Hi there,
I’m planning to make this to give as a Christmas gift. I have everything here in my cupboard except the extra virgin olive oil, could I use vegetable oil or should I make a trip to the store? (Trying to avoid the outside world ???)
Also how long does it last and does it need any specific storing instructions?
Hi Amy, you can use another liquid oil like avocado oil or almond oil, I wouldn’t use vegetable oil since it’s not skin-friendly. You can make this without the olive oil, it’ll be a thicker body butter. This will last 6 months as long as it’s stored in a cool-dry place.

Is it possible to replace the coconut oil with another liquid oil?
I used sweet almond oil instead of coconut and I have it in the freezer now. It’s been about 15 minutes and my batch it still liquid!
Any suggestions?
I wouldn’t suggest swapping sweet almond oil with coconut oil. Coconut oil is solid at room temperature, so if you’re going to swap with another oil you need to use one that has the same consistency. Shea butter, mango butter, and cocoa butter are all good substitutes for coconut oil in this recipe.
Hi! I love this recipe! What’s the sheld life for this cream without preservatives? Can I add a preservative for a longer shelf life?
Thanks!
Yes! Mountain Rose Herbs has great info on how to extend the life of homemade products.

Hi instead of using olive oil, can I use almond oil?? X
Yep!
Hello, super interested in making the body butter, is there an alternative you would recommend in place of the extra virgin olive oil?
Avocado oil is a good alternative to olive oil.
Haven’t made this yet but I’m going to give it a go. Can I use a different oil to extra virgin oil? If so what could I use?
Help Please??
I just made this and it looked great after about 3 minutes of blending. This is my first time making lotion and the directions said it could take up to 15min., so I kept blending. ? Now it is like liquid?? Can it be saved??
I set it in the fridge and came here for help. Lol
Thank you in advance – I am so excited to try this body butter!?
Could I use mango butter in place of cocoa butter?
I haven’t tried it but I think it would work fine.
Hi, Is possible to mix this to soap making as coffee butter
Hi Tiffany! I’m going to try making this this weekend. Do the coffee beans have to be whole? Have you ever tried with ground coffee?
I haven’t but I’m sure that’ll work just fine! Just make sure to strain well.
This sounds AMAZING! I just saw a recipe for whipped coffee butter, but this one sounds even better to me. It has 2 of my favorite scents/flavors, coffee and coconut, which not only smell great but are good for your skin and i’m definitely gonna get all the ingredients and make it.
I made this before but instead of infusing the coconut oil with coffee beans, I just used coffee essential oil that I bought from Plant Therapy. Smellys heavenly and made my skin so soft and smooth! ??
Awesome! Thanks for sharing 🙂
I love reading your newsletters and recipes and then buying the ingredients etc but can you please get rid of all the ads!!!!! I can’t even scroll without a bunch of pop ups and distracting pictures. It’s very annoying and hard to make a recipe with all those ads popping up. Thank you, Melanie
Hello Melanie,
Thank you for the comment. I completely understand your frustration. I work full time creating recipes and writing articles for my readers. Some blogs charge a monthly subscription or ask for donations via patron. I choose to run ads which provide enough income to support the cost of the website and the hours I work, at no cost to you. 🙂
I have added a link at the top of each recipe that says, “Jump to Recipe” that you can use to pass the ads.
Thank you for being a valued reader!
