I like to blend this sometimes, but it also tastes great served over ice cubes.

Coconut Cream, Coconut Milk, and Cream of Coconut: What’s the Difference?
If you’re wondering what the difference between these three products is, you’re not alone! I get asked about this all the time. I have a whole blog post on Cream of Coconut HERE, plus I share my homemade cream of coconut recipe. Below is a short breakdown of these three coconut products:
- Coconut Cream has higher fat content than coconut milk and contains 19% – 22% fat. Coconut cream is equivalent to heavy whipping cream, with a thicker consistency, and is a great substitute in most recipes that call for heavy cream. If you use coconut cream instead of heavy cream, you will notice a milk coconut flavor in your dish. You can purchase coconut cream in cans and cartons.
- Coconut Milk contains between 9%-15% fat. However, there are other types of coconut milk. Coconut milk with less than 9% fat is called lite coconut milk and is what you’ll find in coconut milk cartons. Canned unsweetened coconut milk is usually full-fat and is a great whole milk replacement.
- Cream of Coconut is a sweetened coconut milk syrup made with full-fat coconut milk and cane sugar. Coco Lopez is the most popular cream of coconut product and is usually used to make coconut cocktails and is what you’ll need to create most of the recipes listed. Learn how to make cream of coconut here!
I hope you enjoy our list of delicious coconut cocktails! These recipes can be made with store-bought cream of coconut or homemade cream of coconut. Either way, you’re going to enjoy these tropical drinks!
FAQ
Here are some common questions asked when making your favorite coconut cocktails!
While you can use coconut milk instead of coconut cream, just know that coconut milk is a lot thinner in texture. So a coconut milk cocktail will have a different texture than a coconut cream based.
As you will see from this mix of cocktails, there are a variety of alcohols that compliment the coconut flavor. Rum is one of the biggest, tequila, vodka, and even blue curaçao. Experiment with ingredients and create some of the best coconut cocktails to add to your list!
Toasted coconut is a gorgeous way to garnish your cocktail. Add some corn syrup around the rim and then dip in the toasted coconut. Or slice some pineapple into wedges, lime wheel, add an umbrella, or a maraschino cherry. If it is a coffee-based drink, you might even garnish it with mint leaves or dust of chocolate shavings. The options are endless on how to decorate delicious cocktails.
