There isn’t anything better than sipping on hot cocoa on a cold winter night. If you’re looking for a healthy hot cocoa recipe made with natural ingredients, I have one for you!
This homemade hot chocolate mix is the best I’ve ever tried!
You can mix it with warm milk (or your favorite dairy free milk) or add it to your coffee to make your very own Mocha. Yum!
When it comes to sweets and treats I do my best to use the most wholesome ingredients. For this hot chocolate mix recipe, I used organic cocoa powder, coconut sugar, vanilla bean powder and soy-free chocolate chips (frozen).
Let’s gets started!

You only need 4 ingredients!

How to make this recipe dairy-free: Make sure you’re using dairy-free chocolate chips and dairy-free milk.
How to make this recipe vegan: Same as above, plus using a vegan sweetener. If not coconut sugar, I like date sugar as well. Top with vegan or homemade marshmallows! We also have this vegan hot coco recipe!
How to make this recipe Keto-friendly: Use a sugar-free sweetener such as Stevia/Erythritol or monk fruit sweetener and unsweetened almond milk when you make the hot chocolate.
How to make this recipe Whole30: Since no sugar is compliant with the Whole30 diet, you would have to use 100% cacao powder, no chocolate chips, and add date paste to sweeten after mixing.
How to make hot chocolate mix (step-by-step instructions)
You’ll need a blender or food processor to combine the chocolate, coconut sugar and vanilla bean powder together.
Then you’ll add the frozen chocolate chips. Blend well and add a few drops of peppermint essential oil if using.

Oh my goodness, so happy to find your site. I’ve really been working on eating healthier. I now have my backyard chickens and have cut sugar intake (mostly) and carbs are at a minimal, but trying to bake without flour? Bought coconut flour without even knowing what to do with it, but now I’m so excited to try your recipes, first two will be tortillas and banana bread! I have Leukemia, plus fibro, DDD, high blood pressure, etc. I’ve weaned off most meds. for pain and just trying to de-tox after many years. You wouldn’t really know I’m sick to look at me, but obviously the inside is! So bless you for sharing!!!!

By the way, this sounds good, as well as quick, so I’m hoping I have time to make it as gifts for a couple friends.
Thanks…………
Ann
Lynda, I’m not sure where you read that, but it distinctly reads in a couple places:
To use, combine 1-2 tablespoons of homemade hot chocolate mix with 6 ounces of hot water or milk (or coffee).

Hi Tiffany,
Do I need to keep the jar in the frigde ? I’m wondering because you used frozen chocolate chips.
Thanks so much for all the wonderful tips and recipes. God bless you,
Rosilene

Hi Rosilene! No, you do not need to keep it in the fridge – a cool place will do just fine 🙂
Lynda
I was looking for a serving size and I see that it says “combine equal parts of mix with water or milk”. That can’t be right, right? Seems like way too much mix for how much liquid you’re using. hmmm??
Erin Higa
Hi Lynda, the measurements are 1-2 tablespoons of hot chocolate mix with 6 ounces of hot water or milk 🙂
