Love twizzlers and red vines but want to skip the corn syrup and Red 40? My homemade twizzlers are much healthier and made with whole food ingredients!
Over they years I’ve enjoyed creating healthy candy alternatives based on my favorite childhood treats. Most of these recipes are loaded with chocolate and coconut (my two favorite ingredients)! But this time around I wanted to experiment and make fruit flavored candy. I was surprised how easy it was to make these homemade twizzlers. They came together so quickly and I even added a few scoops of my favorite collagen powder to add protein to them!
To get started you’ll need homemade date paste or 6-8 dates and freeze dried strawberries.
If you don’t have date paste you make some easily at home with a food processor! Just follow these instructions.
Then add the strawberries and collagen powder (if using).
Process the ingredients together until you have a thick fruit paste.
Once you have your batter made you can pipe it out onto the dehydrator tray. I tried my best to make straight lines but that just didn’t happen…
Dehydrate the twizzlers at 125 degrees F for 18-24 hours. Store in an airtight container. Enjoy!
This recipe can be doubled (or tippled or quadrupled) if you wish. Other flavors of freeze dried fruit can be used instead of strawberries to create different flavors. Store the twizzlers in an air-tight container to prevent them from over drying.
