You know how you’re not supposed to run with scissors?
Well, you’re DEFINITELY not supposed to juggle knives.
But this chef is just 100% doing it, like it’s no big deal.
(Here’s where I’ll put in a disclaimer – obviously kitchen knife safety is super important, he’s someone who’s practiced for a super long time, he knows what he’s doing, please do NOT try this at home.)
But watching it’s super fun.
Especially when he breaks out the flaming knives!

Listen, we all get bored and eventually end up on youtube, and that’s 100% what happened to me here. (By the way, if you have any good youtube videos to watch, I’m all ears, post them in the comments. But food stuff only, please. After all, that’s what this blog is all about!)
If you’re feeling bored and want to change up your kitchen routine, here are 10 offhand ideas to try INSTEAD of juggling knives (flaming or not):
10 better things to do with your time than juggling knives
- Make your own baking ingredients. My favorite is homemade vanilla extract (bonus: It’s a VERY simple and straightforward recipe) – it tastes way better and is way cheaper than storebought! But you can also make your own coconut oil, coconut milk, almond flour – the sky is the limit here.
- Try making an all-vegan meal. Veganism is the most popular alternative diet in the United States, and given all the health benefits of going vegan, it’s easy to see why. To keep it simple, you can do a “soup and sandwich” combo with butternut squash soup and this delicious avocado toast recipe and then follow up with these SUPER simple two-ingredient almond flour cookies.
- Try out a new ice cream recipe. Just to get you started, here’s coconut, chocolate, pumpkin, pina colada, mint chocolate chip – and they’re all dairy-free, too, so if you have a dairy allergy or are just trying to reduce how much milk you’re taking in, these are an easy sweet treat! (Most of them are or can easily be made fully vegan too.) Ice cream is extra-awesome during the summer, especially one as hot as this one.
- Bake some bread. If you’re in the mood for savory, here’s an easy coconut bread loaf. If you want sweet, why not try pumpkin bread? Bonus: These are both gluten-free recipes! So they’re easy to share with almost anyone! And once you’ve got your bread recipe down, there are all kinds of fun substitutions you can make. My cousin recently made us a sourdough loaf with chocolate and cherries in it – totally delicious.
- Make Dalgona coffee. This is also called “whipped coffee,” and it’s fantastic. Seriously. Try it, and you won’t want to go back to the regular stuff. (Plus, I’ve included a video with step-by-step instructions.)
- Do something TOTALLY different with coffee. You can use your regular old coffee to make a face scrub or a body scrub. These scrubs are great for exfoliating your skin, and they smell fantastic!
- Save money instead of going to Starbucks. Do you love Starbucks’ eggnog latte but hate how expensive it is? What about their lime bars? You can make them at home! This goes with #5 above, too – in general, best to save money and make your own food at home – it’s more time-intensive, but it tastes better, is generally better for you, and is totally worth it.
- Make cookies. (Who doesn’t love cookies?) What’ll it be: Chocolate chip cookies? Sugar cookies? Peanut butter cookies? You can make them all at home with just a handful of all-natural ingredients.
- Homemade popsicles. Aside from a cold beer, I’m not sure if there’s anything better than a popsicle on a hot summer’s day. Especially when they’re made with nourishing and hydrating coconut water.
- Or bake anything else! Here’s a comprehensive list of 30+ coconut flour recipes you can easily make. (And because coconut flour is naturally gluten-free, you can share these with your gluten-intolerant friends. Many of them make for thoughtful gifts.)
Or if you’ve only got one minute to kill, you can just watch the video of this professional chef juggling knives with a pot over his head. (And juggling flaming knives too!)
This video is totally mesmerizing. Check it out.
